Have never done any smoking before, but willing to learn. Deciding on what I should get for a smoker. Leaning towards a gas smoker. My family does alot of fishing. Used to do alot of hunting, but have recently got out of it and just fish and snowmobile now.

Looking forward to doing alot of reading to learn the art of smoking.

I saw that you asked for advice on what kind of smoker to get. I personally believe that you cannot go wrong starting with a cheap charcoal water smoker. They are called ECB 's on this site and the most popular seems to be a Brinkkman. I have a brinkkman gourmet and it cost me about $50. It was a great learning tool and I still use it, just last weekend as a matter of fact. After using the ECB and learning how to control fire the old fashioned way, I graduated to a gas smoker. It was more of a convienece thing than anything else. I say start with a basic smoker. Learn what you like and what you dont. Then when you feel like you are comfortable with smoking and you keep thinking I wish my smoker had this or that or did this or that, that is the time to upgrade to a bigger, better model. Like anything else, it is hard to know what to buy if you have never used one before.

Hope this helps and feel free to ask as many questions as you like. The people in here are very friendly and always willing to help.

Welcome, if it has to do with smoking meats it's here where you'll find it. I agree with norell6, start cheap and work you're way up
