Hi guys,

My name is Steve. I am from West Newton, PA. I just ordered my 1st smoker. It is an old smokey electric smoker. Should be here next week. My level is 0(unless there is a negative) I am very handy in the kitchen and on the grill but am new to smoking. My job will only allow me to have 1 smoke a week. My 1st one will be ribs. I have an idea on what I will do for my rub-I used to make ribs in the crock pot so I will use a similar one. Still learning on the 3-2-1's and the 2--2-1's. I'll be sure to post pics of what hopefully is not a disaster next week.

A little about myself: I'm a car nut, golf nut, and cooking nut. Sell cars for a living a was referred here by a customer that bought a truck off of me. He also talked me into buying the smoker.

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us! Would you mind updating your profile to show the other SMF members where you are located?  Might meet a few neighbors!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Welcome to the forums, Steve!  This is the best place I know for sharing ideas on smoking, grilling, curing, etc.  There are plenty of friendly, knowledgeable folks who really enjoy helping one another.  Ribs in a crock pot??

When you get that smoker dialed in, you'll have to come up with another use for that crock pot!  Just ask when you need anything, and someone here will surely have the answer.

Good Luck, and have fun!

Believe it or not they are actually pretty good. Cut the ribs in quarters, put your rub on, slice onions 1/4" thick and lay them in the crockpot, pour 1/2 can root beer in, put ribs standing up on onions and let it cook!
