Happy Friday Everyone,

First, I know I am just introducing myself, but these forums and you fine folks have already helped me out a great deal with getting started. My name is David and I live in Thornton, CO. I am new to smoking. I started doing my research on Monday (found this site thankfully), bought a Brinkmann Smoke N' Pit Pitmaster charcoal/wood smoker (decently priced side box smoker) from Home Depot ($149).

When I start a hobby, I generally move fast. I am having the family over this Saturday and I'm going to attempt a brisket, pok shoulder, and some pork ribs. I'm trying the methods and recipes that Jeff posted (bought the rub and sauce recipe), although I think I want to try the 3-2-1 method on the ribs. I've heard apple juice is a good thing to add when you foil them up? Also, I've read a lot about the various mods people have made to their smoking rig. For the sake of time, I think I will extend the smoke stack before this Saturday, and try to tackle some of the rest another weekend. Does that sound like the right one to get done first?

Anyhow, thanks for the help you all have indirectly provided me. I hope everyone has a fast Friday at work and a slow weekend of BBQ and family. Take care.

First off welcome david to SMF. You'll like it here as you know theres alot of good people here. We are happy to have you too just a few thing to learn right out of the box. First is Qview thats picture we really like them and you will too very quickly. The second is your world will soon not be the same you will start thinking of smoking meat all the time for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You will start feeling the need to take pictures of your food and not care who makes fun of you. You will start to call in sick at work so you can smoke a big butt or a nice rack. So hang on it's really a fun ride.

Colorado is being represented well. Welcome. Just a suggestion, I would clean and season your snp soon and try smoking something you you can get the idea of fire management before company arrives on Saturday. Sometimes it can be a bear especially the weather we have been having. Just an idea.

Oh, and take some pictures!!!
