I thought moving from Atlanta would make a number of things hard to do.

Ponce de Leon  is a very small stop lights, fast food or Walmart.

It's 12 miles to the nearest fast food and Walmart along with the smaller grocery stores and such.

Imagine my suprise when I found real nice butts for 1.79 and awesome bellies for our beloved bacon.

Then I started finding the small farmers markets and such.

Today I got local wildflower unboiled honey, fresh t-bone and NYstrip steaks, corn, snap beans and red potatoes.

I also am quite happy to have found a friend in Raptor and his whole family. And Bama! And Pineywoods

Then there is the 35 minute drive to the nicest beaches in the gulf and way cool swimming holes at all of the springs.

Do I miss Atlanta????   Hell no!!!!

This place is less than 5 moles from the house.... Nice family and fresh beef and veggies.

Have a great day to all of my friends here at SMF!!!!

Glad y'all have found a new home that you can enjoy. you will be suprized at how much you will not miss fast food.

Those 3 folks you named would all be welcome at my table.

Unless i have a fishing rod in my hand i don't care about the beach but to each his own LOL.

Glad you are liking the move. Hopefully you don't live where you are going to get smacked by all of the hurricanes during that season.

You live in hurricane alley Craig. Get storm shutters & a whole house generator. Then an extra fridge for beer & you can just ride them out.

The other thing to check for is your elevation and location to drainage.   Remember hurricanes drop a lot of rain and if you are near a river or stream drainage you could have high water.  I definitely agree on the generator,  a small one will run a small window unit air conditioner, a water well, a freezer and refrigerator if you are careful about what runs when.   We also stock up on canned goods during the season, keep a propane stove handy and don't forget to stock up the drinking water.  You are not going to worry about the storm surge but there a lot of tornadoes  in hurricanes.

I would definitely check with the local tv station for hurricane prep literature if you are new to all of this.    My farm (where I hope you see in October) is almost 70 miles from the coast and it took 6 weeks to get the electric turned back on after Katrina.  Roads where blocked with fallen trees so we had to depend on ourselves for a week or two.  Had to drive to Baton Rouge for gasoline.

Now that we got you freeked out if you are prepared you will be ok, but spend the time now learning what you will need and how to get  out of the area if evacuated.

I am happy for you.  It has now been 15 years that I escaped the big city rat race, and I have never looked back.  Yes, there are inconveniences, but there are many more great rewards.  Enjoy!

    Good luck and good smoking!

Actually fellas I did a lot of reading and research before buying this place.

This part of this part of the panhandle hasn't had much damage from hurricanes.

Wind and rain and power outages don't freak me out.

I have 10 years as a scout leader so I do know about being prepared.

Plenty of food stored and the camping gear is close by.

Thanks for your concerns... makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!!

    Group hug!!

Just my personal experience, I spent a lot of time preparing but was surprised at what I wasn't prepared for.  I'm sure you won't have any problems but don't forget to keep an extra month of prescription medicine on hand and keep a couple of hundred bucks hidden in a safe place.  Pharmacies and banks don't run on batteries.
