I've been doing heavy research on Masterbuilt smokers for the past couple of weeks.  I was very close to pulling the trigger on this specific model but after reading the reviews in this forum I've decided against it.  I went over to Amazon again today and looks like they've pulled this smoker from their inventory.  If I get one I think I'll get the 20070311 model.

The exact quote:

"ITEM UNDER REVIEW

While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible."

I also have been trying to decide on a smoker and I am looking at the MES 40. When I saw your post a few minutes I ago I went to amazon and that model number seems to be available again. Maybe it was just some inventory issue at amazon. I think I am going to wait until the black Friday deals are announced before pulling the trigger. Last year I think basspro ran a special on the MES smokers, maybe they will again.

I bought the 20070311 based on all the negative feedback on the Gen II. Hope it arrives in good condition.
