I'm considering an Amazen pellet smoker for overnight cooks. I have an MES 30 with the vent on the top. As far as I can tell there is no air intake, unless you pull out the chip loader. I have seen references to that in other people's advice. If you do that, do you remove it completely or just pull it out a ways? Does it cause you to lose heat?

Is there a set of tried and true directions for using this device somewhere? Like where in a cooker like minedo you put it? I've seen different things mentioned.

Also, can you dry the pellets in the oven? I don't have a microwave.

Thanks

Get the 5 X 8 AMNPS, and put it on the bars to the left of the chip burner assembly. With your Gen #1 MES 30, you don't need to screw with your chip drawer or chip dumper. Just get it lit real good (one end), and put it in there.

Also, if you get your pellets and/or dust from Todd, put it in empty plastic juice jugs, and you won't have to use a Microwave or an Oven.

Hate to admit this to someone named Bear, but I'm nervous about the propane torch bit. How scarey is that to use? Does it come with instructions? Does it come with fuel? If not, where do you get it?

Thanks

I understand. I was a little leery the first time I used one---Many years ago.

You have to get the torch & tank. I would recommend the one with the trigger start.

To start out, you can get the kit (torch & tank).

Then you just screw the tank onto the torch hand tight. It's really that easy.

They have them at Home Depot, and most hardware stores.
