amateur competition

  1. I am really green when it comes to pure smoking. I have been doing it for about 3 years, I'm just now able to produce a few things consistently well. Rub, ribs, and whole chicken as well as parts. I can do anything in my kitchen, but wood, fire, and smoke... How long should I be doing this before I even think of trying to enter an amateur event?

Only way to find out is to do it. Worst that can happen is a last place finish, and as you do a few more I'm sure that'll improve.

I'm right there with ya.  I'd like to get into some am comp action but my skills will be seriously trumped at an event like that for sure.  I suppose the only way is up after getting drummed by the pit masters that claim to be amateurs haha

Hey lumpy, last place is better than never entered. Do you know what they call the guy who finishes last in medical school? Doctor.
