So I finally accumulated the first three major ingredients for my trailer mounted RF rig.  The cooking chamber tank is 36" diameter by 48" long...I think that calculated out to about 205 gallons-ish.  Cost $20.  The firebox is an 80 gallon air compressor tank found on Craigslist for $70.  It's a little bigger than the recommended 1/3 ratio, but I'm thinking that won't be a huge problem.  Originally I was given a free trailer, but when I picked it up I realized how small it was  It's only 3 feet across the frame and 4 feet from outside the tires.  I was worried about it's weight capacity as well as its stability with it being so narrow with the tank on top.  So today I picked up a truck bed trailer on Craigslist for $50 delivered.  Now I dont have to worry about weight or stability.

The trailer has some work to be done.  I think we'll grind off all the old truck bits and cut a coil out of the springs to lower it some.  Eventually I'll spend the money on some better looking rims and shorter sidewall tires, but not worried about it right now.

In the pictures, you can see the compressor tank in the foreground of the trailer picture.  Not sure of the thickness of the metal, but tapping on it feels and sounds pretty thick.  The plate on top is 1/4 and I'm guessing that the tank will be 3/16.

So I'll keep the pictures coming as the build progresses.  Excited to get started.  I'm feeling pretty good about this as I only have $140 into it thus far.  I think I'll just put two racks into it...but well see what the space feels like when we cut it open and start laying out.  I guess I can always allow for three racks and just run as many as I want.  Two would give just about 20 sq ft...probably plenty.

Raptor:

I wish it was from Ford, but no, it's a Chevy.  About the right year though, but I am no Chevy afficionado, so I am not certain.

Look forward to following your progress Ballagh.  :)

Mine is going slow so far.  Be doing a ton of research, picking, and gathering.  I looked at hundreds of pics and different designs and took all the things I liked from them and drew up my own.  Been buggin some peeps on here for weeks trying to get all my sizes right.  I am putting some bucks into this and I want it to be perfect.  I plan on keeping it for awhile, until someone comes by and offers me a crazy price for it, or I can convince my wife that I need a smoker big enough to smoke a whole black angus on :)  Got her sold on the whole hog already  hehehehehehehe
