I'm Sammy from columbus ga. I'm new to the smoking world but have had a passion for grilling, cooking, and eating for years. I'm thinking about purchasing a used lang 84 deluxe model. Any insight anybody could give me would be helpful because I have been hesitant on pulling the trigger on a smoker for awhile because it is a big money item to get into without having any prior knowledge.

Hi Sammy and welcome to SMF!  Glad you joined us.  This is a great place to share ideas on our favorite pastimes...smoking and grilling great food!  There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks here who really enjoy helping one another.  Any time you need help, just ask and you'll get plenty!

Those Langs are really nice pits - kinda the Cadillac of stick burner smokers.  I don't know what the asking price is, but if its a bargain you should go for it...that pit would turn out great food for a lifetime.  If you're nervous about investing so much money right out of the gate, there are certainly many very serviceable smokers out there for much less money than a Lang.

welcome aboard. ya came to the right place fer sure. lol. look forward to seeing some view from ya in the future.. good luck and have fun.

It was a 84 deluxe and the asking price was 3000. Is there anything I need to look at closely? Only thing I could find wrong with it was the firebox grate needed replacing. Also smoker was not cleaned after the last cook. Owner said he doesn't like to clean after cooking only before because of the threat of rust. Does that sound common or could there be hidden problems because of this?
