I have yet to see the formula or how big the firebox has to be for a 55 gallon drum with my searches on the forum.  Anyhow, I plan on building one here very shortly and would like some help figuring out the dimensions to build the firebox so it doesn't get too hot, or too cold.

Someone else on here had built a similar one and this is kinda what i want to build.  http://i.imgur.com/oGrVp.jpg

Does anyone know of some good plans to build this correctly?  I am just too new at this whole thing to even know how big of a hole to make between the firebox and the drum.  Anything would be helpful!

Thanks all!

Call me stupid, but this excel spreadsheet seems to be a bit confusing.  Mind telling me a bit on what to input and where?  I do appreciate the quick response though!  When I figure out how to use this, it will be exactly what i was looking for.  Thanks!

I had/have no clue on Garys spreadsheet deal

Well, a 55 gallon drum makes a wonderful smoker just like this. No welding, no trailer needed. Just a thought. You might look at the UDS section of this website for some ideas. It really is a awesome machine. That picture you provided looks to be a compressor tank and more than 55 gallons. Drum steel is pretty thin and tough to weld on.

If you are speaking of the link in my post, you have to use your finger, and old fashioned calculator and a pencil to write down values....

If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you... I'm a child of the 50's and learned math the old fashioned way.... Slide rule and a pencil.... I don't do spread sheets...

That does NOT look like a 55 gallon drum to me either.
