Trying to find paint now... I have read most of the paint posts . Any recommendations I'm really not wanting to use rattle cans. Any one try the thurmalox stove paint in gallon units I'm thinking of gettin the satin black. Price seems reasonable 50$ a gallon .
Cooker is looking good. There is a brand of paint called pot belly stove paint it runs about 40 to 50 per gallon It holds up pretty well. They have been making `this paint for over 100 years. I have a photo of a square box cooker on here and I painted it about 10 years ago. Its starting to break down now but has held up to a lot of cooks. I found out over years of building if you can burn coals down in a barrel and spread through the cooker and bring the temp to about 150 or 200 for about 3 hrs this helps cure and bake the paint on for and longer lasting finish.
This smoker has been running non stop since aug 1st and I've been stacking wood on top of firebox to dry it out. Just now ready for another coat. I think thats pretty darn good performance
Just working away at it !!! I currently have s pinched nerve in my neck so it's slowi me down a bit but I am almost done with the fab work then it's off to the sandblaster
It's a work in progress don't rush it take ur time the end result will be worth the wait my only regret is not being a better welder !!! I had asked buddies to help me with the welding but when it came down to it no one showed up !!!
Rustolum does have high heat in Satin, but it dries a weird burgandy color. They also have gloss black it's 1000 degrees. It's ok. I would spend the extra money and get a quality paint.
