I have a grill/smoker I had built out of an old 250 gallon tank I got from my father in law. Long story short, I had a friend of a friend of a friend build this setup for me.  Problem is that I did not specify how I wanted the doors cut and when I went to get the finished grill, to me, the doors seem a bit small and the cooking surface area seems limited.

I am trying to see if I had someone cut down each side of the front of the grill doors then close and weld the existing doors to the newly cut area then cut out the bottom ot the doors would this hold up in the long term or does this even make sense? just trying to get some ideas. the grill racks are about 2 inches below the opening of the door.

From the pic I think the doors should be down to the wooden platform and the inner rack lowered also to this point.

Thanks

Looks like you welder / builder was worried about weight of the doors . IMHO you could drop the racks and extend the doors.

Thanks for the responses.  I do not own a welding machine so I will get someone local to give me a hand.  I will try and get pics posted after the mod is done.
