Good info. Now you know where to start to fix her up.
Only make one change at a time.
Start with the FB-CC opening, then see how it runs.
Then move on to the chimney if needed by first covering about one-third of the top. That will give you an idea of how it will work if you reduce the size.

Keep us posted on the progress.

Symonds, evening.....  Open up the opening FB/CC, measure the RF plate opening at the opposite end of the FB...  There should be at least 9 1/2" for the opening for good air flow...   Adjust the chimney and I think, baring any unforeseen stuff, it will work very well......

i have it heating up now got the hole resized i know i have over 9 1/2 inches i will measure though later on thanks guys

i meant over 9 1/2 inches at the other end of the rf  plate, the fb hole is now the size on the diagram and it seemed to work much better got to 375 np and came back down nice and had beautiful smoke  i did cover about 4 inches of the chimney up will a "choke plate" on top work on or should i cut the stack off and start over?

Try a choke plate on top with a 5" hole or an adjustable plate.....   I'd try the 5" hole in a piece of sheet metal and see what happens.....   make your decision based on those results....  larger, smaller, adjustable.....   There is some science to this...  "AS BUILT" is a good way to go.....

I chose 5" due to the extra height of the stack, the reduced friction in the larger square tube....  and then the S.W.A.G. came into play.....

At the end of the day, this is as good as it gets.

I've been meaning to develop some better tools for calculating Stack dimensions, but Dave's suggestions are on-point.

One thing you might consider is to sleeve your stack with a pipe of 4" x 8" rectangular (equivalent to 5.3" dia). This will give an equivalent volume of 668 cu-in. The insulating effect of the outer sleeve will improve the draw and make it less susceptible to outside temps.

As you can see, there are many ways to skin this cat. Don't worry too much about it. The stack will work as long as you are in the ballpark.

i like the sleve idea i think that i might do that later on but i think i will use a choke plate for now thanks so much for the help

Got some more done this weekend. Found a gas grill by the curb so I brought it home replaced the burners and grate cleaned it up and mounted it on the trailer with some 1 1/4 square tubing. Mounted and plumbed the log lighter and grill and got it painted really all I have left is to mount a shelf on the front of the smoker door. Also added some small sides to the wood storage area

thanks weirdest think happened got home from work and found a note on new york state trooper paper askin my to call officer...  i called and i guess he wants to buy my cooker  didnt really build it to sell but every things for sale if i can make money to build a new one i  guess but i have no idea what to ask if i decide to any suggestions

I'm gonna keep this one for a while the trooper liked the idea of me building one for him that is what he wants and built just for him. So this weekend I went to wire the lights but can't find my fish tape to run the wire though the frame rail so I installed my self instead. It's actually a piece of aluminum bleacher bench 9/ 1/2 inches wide 5 1/2 feet long. While I was doing that I fired it up so I could watch temps and get an idea of its personality then I figured I would throw a burger on For lunch when I was done with the shelf. Deff over kill for one burger but it kept temp very well and the burger was good. My brothers gonna take it for a get togather heis having Thursday so I will ask him to get some good q pics
