2 butts in the MES40...

    its 28 degrees outside and I had 2 butts in the smoker and it started snowing.....


    I put a towel over the top to keep it off the controls since I was close to pulling it out anyway.

    top one had garlic & herb rub and on the bottom one I tried something different with Grippo's bar-b-q spice.


    If I can keep the vultures away when I start pulling it apart I will post some more pics.

    Are you gonna finish them in the oven or something. They look like they are off to a good start.

    well.... put them in the oven to finish or at least that was the plan.  I didn't leave myself much wiggle room on the timing.  Ended up only using the larger one for dinner last night and it probably could have used another hour or so in the oven.  IT was about 185 when we had to head over to the in-laws for dinner.  It wasn't as tender as I would have liked.  I cut it up into chunks and everybody still liked it but I like it better when it is completely falling apart.  I didn't even take any pics.  The smaller one got put into the frig and will probably get consumed tonight/tomorrow.  I used a different rub on the smaller one and I'm hoping that since it was smaller that it will come out better.

    here is the other one... turned out MUCH better IMHO.


    this was only pic I got cause the kiddos were starving.

    Looks like some good pig. You know that you were short on the internal temp so next time will be better.

    yup, my timeline will definitely not be as crunched next attempt.
