My smoker is no where close to those calculators...and it cooks like a dream. lol I would say about 15-20 degrees from front to back. It looks like on Franklin's cookers the stacks are 10" by about 6 feet. Live near Houston? I have a bunch left over. lol

I discarded the calculations after seeing your smoker build and the all post regarding the firebox size. I live in North Carolina so that might be a little bit of drive to get the 10" from you haha.
My plan is to have a trailer setup like franklins with the double 500s I already have the other tank and firebox I just have to build it. Which should go quicker now that I have built one. I think you and I have the same theory Go big or go home.

sxfxz sxfxz do you plan to build a custom trailer for yours? Or did you buy the trailer it is on for this sole purpose? What do you think the total weight of yours is?

I bought that trailer for the sole purpose of keeping the smoker on it. I'd guess the smoker is around 3,000lbs. Yes one horseshoe is for the damper, the other 4 are so 2 people can take it down if desired. But whole thing is 13.5 feet tall so I'm good to roll down the road with it just the way it is.

Thanks. That is one big smoker for sure. Are you starting a business or just wanted a big smoker? Me I just wanted a big smoker haha. And doing a few wedding and fundraisers would be fun too.

The grates are in the smoker is seasoned and the first meat came off the smoker this past Saturday. The Pork butt steaks were delicious hopefully this weekend some butts will be smoked. It cooked great and held temps pretty good maybe a 10-15 degree temp difference. Now to build its twin and the trailer for them to sit on.

Yes! So awesome! How does she do on wood consumption?
Thanks! It didn't consume to much maybe 20 sticks. I started the fire around and kept it between 250and 150 just to season the smoker. Then maintained around 250 to cook the steaks from 6-9. I was pretty impressed that it didn't use to much wood.

Do you have some kind of buffer plate over your firebox opening?
When I cut the firebox opening I cut it lower so that the top of the sphere would act as a baffle to direct the heat down. Does it work? I'm not sure but it has to help a little bit.

What's the GAWR you got there?

I'm not sure. I'm putting two 500 gal tanks on the trailer so I figure each of them weighs about 1500
So maybe 4000 total but then add wood to smoke with I would say 5000-6000 fully loaded.

I'm confused, is that a single axle trailer?  What is the weight rating of the axle(s).  I'm way over on the trailer I bought, so I'm buying a much stronger single axle - I don't want to have to outfit a second axle...

It's a tandem axle the axles are mobile home axles so I'm not sure of the weight capacity. I originally wanted to do a single axle but tandem axles have more stability. In the picture I just a hadn't gotten the second set of wheels on yet. What kind of smoker are you building?

Here is a pic of the axles now.

Nice I found your post about insulating the Firefox. Your smoker looks awesome. I wondered about insulating mine but a few extra logs on the fire is the cheaper option for me at this point. Have you read franklins book? It is really good and if I remember correctly he talks about his reasoning behind the insulated firebox. Mainly it is if you are going to be cooking on it everyday like he does.
