1st time brauts

Discussion in 'Pork' started by fire in the hole, Jan 30, 2012.

  1. We mixed up about 5# of brauts yesterday and the stuffing job looks good. They are in the fridge waiting to be grilled for tonites supper.

They were given a twist to make links. Will these links stay tied at the ends when cut into individual links, or is there another method to secure the ends????

staying inlinks depends on what type casing you used

if you used natural hog casing they will stay twisted once you cut them apart.

you need ot post some pics!

We use hog casings & twist them 3 revolutions then refrigerate over night, then when you cut them they stay together at the ends.

  4. Uncle_lar......but-but-but.....they are just a string of links and I figured[IMG] it would be a boring photo. Yes, they are hog casings.

Thanks guys. I'm sure we got enough twists and won't have blow out ends.

  7. I'll see what I can do. I've not posted a photo of anything yet. But, we'll try.
  8. Can't wait to see some pics!
  9. Ok, braut supper is history.....and if I can say so.........damned good. They didn't seem to burn (blacken) like store bought brauts and maybe not as pretty in the raw. Our critique was that we need a little more fat. Other than that, they were very tasty.[IMG]This 1st shot is of the raw brauts and you can see one was so pregnant that it blew out.[IMG]This next shot is of course, on the grill. Trust me, it is pitch black dark outside. The light must come from a light I have over my grill and the flash on my camera....I guess.[IMG]Whow!!!! To much light on the dinner plate. We had leftovers from our dino bone dinner last nite. They were potato salad, baked beans and coleslaw and of course our very 1st home made brauts. Thanks for everything I have learned from this forum and thanks for the looks.
