In case any are interested here is a few pictures of my GOSM with the glass door. I have posted in the Mod section about the smoker.

Yesterday I took it out for a ride. Here are the results of my 1st smoke with the new glass door. I really like seeing inside the smoker while it's working. The glass does get a film on it while its smoking, but it not enough to block the view. Here is a picture taken after 3 1/2 hours.

I'm very happy with the results of the mod. Overall it wasn't too much work and costs where reasonable at about $32.00.

Kinda neat to be able to see the food while it cooks !!

Meat Porn is the first thing that came to mind. Sorry if I offended anyone. I don't think I could do this mod because the wife would worry why i'm staring at the smoker for hours on end.
Great looking mod by the way.

Well lets say meaat porn isnt the first thing that came to mind but now that you say it. Now I like the idea alright but I'm just tring to think of why would you want to see the meat but maybe I'll think for a little while on the subject.

Hay guy, loved your mod when you posted it on the yahoo group, very nice mod there.

Where you get the glass from?

I was doing some searches online with no luck finding high temp glass.

All kinds of crazy crap from the orient.

Thank you all the compliments.

I posted a brief description of the build in the Propane Smoker Modifications section (page 4),
and there is a new post with the build list & pictures.

Basically I ordered a piece of tempered glass from a local glass company. Took some 1/8" thick by 2" wide steel plate and made a frame for the glass to 'mount to' and attached the frame with nuts and bolts.

A little update on the glass door mod.

After using the GOSM with the new window the past several weeks I am super pleased with it. However, I would change one thing. I would make the opening even larger. I had a concern that the door might be weaker or unstable with this large of an opening. It turns out that it is stronger, because of the steel frame and even the glass itself. So I would take the steel frame all the way to the top of the door and leave the bottom about where it is now. My window is a bit short of the top shelf.

I like the way NWDave did his.

Thanks hailfixer, you put the fire under my inspiration. I just took the opening all the way down to the baffle on the front door. I do have the big block whereas yours is the smaller version. Sure like this modification. I can see from the flame to the top shelf. Can't ask for better than that.

AND let's not forget adding the chargriller SFB to the right side. Gives me two ways to low temp smoke with the variety of woods I have, from sawdust to chunks and mini logs. Got all bases covered.

So what's our next mod?

Yo hailfixer, awesome MOD, really...

It would have been cool if you had pics of the process in creating this excellent mod. Or did I miss that post?

Again congrats on your fine work...

I put the whole procedure in the Propane Smoker Modifications sticky thread.

Lots of pictures etc. Start on page 4.

Next mod I think will be an oven light or two. Then I have some ideas for latter this year. After the hail season.
