1st ever Smoke w/Qview. Boneless Pork Sirloin Roast with Dutch's Wicked Baked Beans

  1. Well, this is truly my 1st ever smoke on my new MEB 30", or any true smoker for that matter. And KUDOS to Dutch for his Baked Beans recipe, they were awesome! I brined the roast overnight, then injected with Creole Butter & used Jeff's Rub and wrapped in plastic wrap for about 10 hours. Cooked at 225 for about 2 hours until I reached an IT of 145, then foiled. Roasts were tender & juicy with great smoke taste. The only problems I had were 1). No crust, I probably should've thrown them on the grill for a few mins for this. And 2). My A-Maze-N-Pellet-Smoker fizzled out on me almost as soon as I shut the door on my smoker. Any ideas? I had the chip loader pulled out about 2". Any ideas?

    Everything looks delicious!  I'd call it a very successful first smoke!

    It sounds like an air flow issue with the AMNPS going out as soon as you shut the smoker.  First, make sure you have a good, hot glowing cherry going in your pellet bed before putting it in the smoker...this can take as much a 10 minutes sometimes.  If your top vent is wide open, and the AMNPS is still going out, try pulling that chip loader out some more, and keep pulling it further until you find the right air flow.  I've heard of folks taking the chip loader completely out to get proper air flow.  It may also help to pull the actually chip drawer out an inch or two to allow more air to flow.  After a few cooks in that rig, you'll get it dialed in for sure.

    I wish my first smoke went that well LOL! Good looking stuff there. I have found (take with a grain of salt I'm still a rookie) that a rub with sugar and height temps at the end will give you a decent crust.
  4. Thanks, I only pulled the chip loader out a couple of inches, but I'll try taking it all the way out next time. Is my placement right for this MES model? And I let it burn with flame a good ten mins at least before I put it in, then tried to relight and my freaking torch wouldn't light up, go figure. So I made the best with what I had and loaded the chiploader with chips
