18.5 wsm water pan coating

  1. Hi all,
Im on my 6th smoke on my brand new 18.5 wsm and i noticed that my water pan isnt shiny anymore. I always smoke with my water pan with water in it- although during my last 14 hour some i did almost run out of water before i had to refill it.

My water pan seems to have lost its "shine" on both sides and is no longer smooth. It also has a rust color in the inside (where the water goes). Is this the coating coming off?

It's fine. I doubt heat to the water pan will cause any damage. I would cover the water pan in foil going forward. Makes any cleanup a lot easier.

It is not rust coming off, it is baked on grease etc.

I don't think there is anything to worry about at all
  4. As said as above you good to go. Look inside your oven and that is what is going on here.

    Happy smoken.

  5. Thanks trueteam,krubby, david! What a relief!

Made some ribs yesterday and finally got that smoke ring on it!
  6. The coating inside and out is porcelain ceramic. It won't come off at cooking temps.
  7. thanks Bama
