I make something very similar to this - but if I am feeling adventurous, I start by putting the rice in the smoker for a couple of hours on a grill mat. You can't believe the taste.
Thanks guys - I appreciate it. At the price I couldn't pass it up, and from what I read it works well. It's not a BGE, but works well. We shall see - LOL.
I have a Bandera replica, a MES30, and a MES40 with BT - and after this weekend I am the proud owner of a Char-Broil Kamander. I went to Aldi in Stillwater, OK - and they had evidently found one in the back. For $79 I couldn't not buy it! Even my wife agreed. So - after I put it together...
On a separate note - has anybody hacked the bluetooth on this - or modified it? Why they didn't use WiFi I don't know, much better range. Bluetooth is 30' with class 2 - and that sucks. A wall cuts that to about 10'. It is the one failure I see on this smoker.
My AMNPS just doesn't seem to stay lit. I have had my Bluetooth since last Christmas, and have reverted to chips. I have it on the bottom left side (below the racks) - no water ever, I have even taken the chip loader out. Drives me crazy. I like to use my bottom rack for things I want...
I have been lurking here for years, finally joined a few years ago - and don't post often. I subscribe to the newletter, and read it everytime. Then I see "The" Jeff replying to my post. Funny thing is I see Pretty Water. Now if you aren't from Creek County you have no idea where that is -...
Did my first turkey today in the MES. I have been smoking meats for years, and I must say I love that thing for poultry or things that really don't need as much smoke. Anyway - I let the wife make the brine, and OMG I hope she can remember what all she put in it. I know one thing was pickling...
Egg recipe is just a normal deviled egg (I use a lot of creamy horseradish in mine with very little mustard). I saw them here in SMF-and had to try to smoke an egg. I was amazed. I never thought of taking an egg from the fridge and putting it in the smoker. Till I saw this forum!
Sam's has Butts for like 1.58, but if you buy the case they are I believe 1.38 per lb. I like Sam's Club meat. There isn't one close, I just wondered if it would be worth the hassle of trying to visit one the next time I was in Dallas or KC.
I have had a stickburner for about 20 years, have plans for a big trailer mounted reverse flow, and just scored a hot deal on a MES 30. I cooked quite a bit in it yesterday. I can't say anything about durability - because it's only been on twice. Once to season it, and then yesterday to cook...
Tried them - and they turned out very well. I was surprised how well they cooked in the shell. I used cherry chips-and after a couple of hours the smoke flavor was very light. Deviled eggs are what they became. My kids want more! I am thinking next time I will use mesquite or hickory to get...
