    smoking brined chicken--add rub?

    I'm brining a chicken for the first time.  I'm going to smoke it tomorrow and I'm wondering if I should also put a rub on it, or if people usually just smoke the chicken as is after brining. Also, if I were to grill chicken, would it make sense to add a rub, or are rubs just used when smoking...
