I am just starting a stumps clone build. I ordered the steel Friday and will pick it up this week. ALL pieces of steel is going to be cut to length so when I get it home I can start welding her up.
Are there any things that you would change to the smoker now that you have it running?
I am selling my 500 smoker on a trailer It is a reverse flow 500 gallon tank on a 6.5x12 trailer. It is almost a year and half old. She cooks a ton of meat and have put several full loads of ribs in it and should hold 40 or so pork butts easily. It is about 37" deep but can't remember the width...
Go big
I started with a small wally world sfb smoker and decided shortly after that it was not big enough to # 1 do comps, #2 to cater with.
I decided to build a trailer smoker and used a 500 gallon LP tank. Size matters :)
Anyway if you can afford the 84 do it you will not be disapointed...
I did this to both of my builds ( 500 gallon and a 120 gallon smoker) and think it will work for that but the RF plate is sloped down so it would take a lot of fluid to get enough fluid to make even heat. Mine do slope quite a bit and I have not tried to add any fluids yet. The thought was to...
No, it won't interfear with the air flow. The plate can be the width of the top opening and maybe 10" deep. Weld it in at a small angle down going into the chamber. You may need a support to hold the end that is inside the chamber in its place.
On my cart model I made a steel box that goes into...
Are you refering to the reverse flow plate?
If so I would do at a minimum 3/16" as it doesn't take long to heat 1/8" metal up.
Make sure you leave enough room between the RF plate and the fire box opening so any flames do not come in contact with the RF plate as this will give you a hotter...
BTW your fire box will work out fine. Mine is "too small" according to the charts its 20x28 or 26 but it works great on the 500 and holds temps for a very long time. Yours will be plenty.
I finished the 120 gallon smoker.
Had to cut the firebox off as I just did not like it as it was so I fixed it and remounted it.
Also mounted the hatchet as a handle. I am still in need of 2 hatchets for my 500 gallon smoker as I just can't find wood handled hatchets just metal ones so if you...
I cooked a brisket in the 500 Sunday and once up to temp she stayed there for a long time. She held 250 forever then when she dipped to 225 I add a hunk of wood and back up to 250. I am very impressed with how long she holds and how little I have to mess with the fire box. Now I have time todo...
