^^^^^^ didn't think about that... thanks for the reminder.
I didn't end up doing this this weekend as I planned. Maybe I'll be able to fit it in next weekend.
Just took a better look at the grill... the bottom is totally open. It opens right up to the drip pan. I'm thinking I may be able to pack (foil?) around the slide out pan to seal it up. Or maybe even come up with some kind of a fire box to sit below the grill. Then pack the other couple of...
Thanks for the reply and the move. Yes, they run side to side... I was thinking about using a cake pan and setting it on the defuser plates. Just got to figure out how to close off the holes around the burner plumbing now.
So, my UDS got put on hold for a few....
I really want to smoke some grub and figure I may as well use my gasser with some chips.
Sorry bout the crap pic, digi not focusing right...
Is it as simple as using one... maybe 2 of my 3 burners with a tray of chips above them and my meat over the...
Kerosene, oils and such will burn out and leave nothing harmful behind.... There are a lot of chemicals out there that are resistant to high temps and carry a strong chance of leaving stuff behind that could be harmful or even deadly if consumed.
Yeah, I wasn't worried about the prior contents of the drum... just the coating on the inside. but as I said above... there's no more odor . Do I just need to power wash it or do I need to get it down to bare metal?
Pretty sure it was just painted on the inside... may have been a powder coat of some kind. After the first good burn there wasn't anymore odor. I think I got it all burned off, I just know that when you burn paint it leaves stuff behind. Didn't know if I had to sand that out or just a good power...
My drum originally had Ethanal (sp?). It was painted on the inside and out. Doesn't have the paint odor anymore during the burns so, I think it all got burnt out. I just need to clean the inside out now. DO you usually sand them to finish removal or should I be good with just a good power...
I got one more burn to do on my UDS drum. The question I have is.... how do you all go about cleaning it out after the burn. Mine had a painted coating on the inside.
Thanks
My boo helping dad out today...
Fire basket completed. And my drum is on it's second burn.
Here's that pic for you Tom
one more burn tomarrow. Then we should be good to go.
How do you guys go about cleaning the drum after it's burned out?
Just got back with most of the parts needed to put her together. Still need to get me a therm for the inside temp and a few other little things. Gonna see if I can git 'r dun in the next day or two.
I'll get that pic for ya Tom... notta problem
Well, here's where she sits at the moment. Need to finish gathering some parts and try to get some work done this wk/wknd.
After I get all my parts together I'll burn the coating/paint off and get to work.
Thanks for looking/support
Got the drum opened up today. Wasn't expecting the inside to be coated, Glad to see no liner though. The Weber ended up be the right size for the job.
Will have a few picks tomorrow. Camera battery was dead when the wife got home.
Got my drum yesterday. She's out in the driveway full of soapy water as we speak. Went to a party last night, my bud sold me his Weber grill for $10.Hope it's the right size, I didn't have a tape measure at the time. Gonna give the drum a couple rinses and get to work.
Pics to come soon... wife...
