Smoking Boston Butt on a Grill Today

My first post in this thread alludes to a question about posting a link to another forum. I received a nice note from a moderator saying that my link was removed because that's not permitted. I'm ok with that though sorry there isn't a short cut to what was a good day "smoking" on a gas grill...

Smoking Boston Butt on a Grill Today

I'm in the process of doing as the title says, and this is my first big smoking bbq . I'm also recording a sort of blow-by-blow in another forum (the one I started off with) complete with pics and am looking for comments and any help (posted here or there). When it's all done, I'll come back...

new 18.5 wsm on craigslist $160.00

Nice! If there's an external scratch, use wood stove paint and a fine brush to fill the scratch. You could do the same inside, but as you said, season either way. Rich

    Wsm & Tbs

Yeah, I'm considering an older model also, Jim. The important things to me on the new ones were actually the water pan (which as you said can be replaced) but especially the larger door. To me, that door seems like a better "backup plan" if needed. The thermo, I can do without or work around...

    WSM Cart... super cool!

Yeah, that is cool. Looks like he made it so that each section can be taken apart easily just as intended. I wouldn't need it (I don't think), but it is cool. Rich

    Wsm & Tbs

You guys are driving me nuts!! About six weeks ago, I bought a Weber Genesis E-310 which I've been very happy with, but it has also allowed me to play a little with smoke (especially with a small addition that keeps the smoke from blowing out). I like the smoking flavor so much and have read...

    WSM and ash?

OH! Now THAT's especially helpful. I always used briquettes before and know how much ash they produce. Based on what I've learned recently, I was planning to try lump when I can. BTW, AK1 -- got a grill? Rich

    Hello from Raleigh NC

Welcome, Joe. I be a newbie too and live not too far away east of Pittsboro (love too, but that was a typo). I'm also looking into a "real" smoker after grilling on propane for about 7 years (cheap charcoal grills before that for 100s of years ). So maybe we can learn something about all this...

Smokin' in NC More Ways than One

Hi, all. I'll just do a quick intro here and get my profile filled out more completely soon. I jumped in with a question yesterday and it was like driving one of these into a nice fish pond . I've been grilling for many years and recently dropped my Brinkmann 2600 POS for a Weber Genesis E-310...

    WSM and ash?

Thanks for the helpful responses folks -- they make sense to me. I would love to get one of the new WSMs -- it's nice to know about the water pan size increase. Caveman, I chose your response to reply to so that I could say, "I'm on my way!" I was in a rush yesterday and really wanted to...

    WSM and ash?

Hey, newbie member here. In another forum, a member mentioned that the WSM has some problem with ash getting on the cooking meat due to the inline updraft from coals to vent. I'm considering buying a smoker (I have a Weber Genesis propane grill) and am wondering how pervasive this problem is...
