My first build! 275gal Oil Tank Reverse Flow

I am getting ready to start cutting my plate for the firebox and the dimensions I come up with off of the Feldon calculator seems on the big side. 27x27x28. Any suggestions?

My first build! 275gal Oil Tank Reverse Flow

I hope you don't mind if I pick your brain Dave!  Should I use 1/4" for the RF plate? Also, my RF plate will be 13" from the bottom of the tank so does that mean it needs to have a 13" space at the end of it? I wasn't sure if thats what you were saying in your ealier reply.

My first build! 275gal Oil Tank Reverse Flow

Dave, do you mean if there is 13" from the bottom of the chamber to RF plate that I need to leave that same distance at the end of the plate? That's interesting idea for redirecting. Are guys/gals having problems getting enough heat to the lower rack with the RF design?

My first build! 275gal Oil Tank Reverse Flow

My end result will look something similar to this picture below I found on google, only mounted on a trailer. In the original pics if you can see the blue chalk line below where the door cut outs are, that's where I planned to have the RF plate with the opening into the firebox 2 inches below...

My first build! 275gal Oil Tank Reverse Flow

I have finally started my first build. I wanted to put up some pics of the start of the process, but I also have a couple questions. How far above the firebox opening should I put the RF plate? What thickness of steel is recommended for said plate? Also how far above the plate should my bottom...

    First chuckie question

Im not necessarily concerned about the total weight.I just didn't think it would turn out right. I couldnt imagine if a "butt" was only a couple inches thick, regardless of the weight, that it would turn out as awesome as a normal one.

    First chuckie question

Im gonna do my first chuckie tomorrow along with some other things. I was at the grocery this morning and took a look at the chuck roasts they had and they all were 2-3lbs and only 2-3 inches thick. Am I wrong in assuming that I need something bigger than this?

Could I use Wood Instead of Charcoal?

I have the exact smoker. I always start with a chimney of charcoal to get things going and that is all the charcoal I use. From there I use nothing but split hickory logs and mix in cherry and apple if I have them. It does require a little more tending, but whats the fun in never getting to play...

    Grates For Sfb Grills-experiments.

im just curious how the basket would work if you're doing a 10-12 hour smoke. i like the idea as far as the easiness of cleaning it out when you're done with it. it just seems to me that the fire would suffocate.
