2012 MES 40 vs. Old Model MES 40

I like that idea. This would be a great upgrade instead of all the other bells and whistles they seem to have added to the 2 Gen. To much eye candy.

    MES Smoke Stack?

Have you ever tried to insert a rheostat or variable resistor. Very cheep and works for slowing or increasing the speed of the fan. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811998129

2012 MES 40 vs. Old Model MES 40

Same issue as the 1 gen MES. Looks like a heat deflector of some kind is in the works for you Todd. The only thing I can come up with on the temp difference's between the meat prob and the controller. Is that the controller is programed this way. The rocketing temp is the biggest issue. I hope...

2012 MES 40 vs. Old Model MES 40

Todd I noticed that the drip pan/heat deflector in the first test was installed upside down and in the replacement unit you showed it installed correctly. Could this be the swing differences in right to left in the each one of the test? Or is the pictures incorrect and you had the drip pan/heat...

Garage Smoking Station for my MES 30

I just used an over the range microwave that had a built in vent-a-hood and vented it out the side of the house no smoke stack needed. I just turn the fan on low and placed my MES under it.

    30" MES Replacement Element

Call masterbuilt and tell them you have a newer 40''(one with a heating element access door on the back) and need a replacement heating element. You may have to get the part number for the 40''. This will be a 1200 watt element not a 650 or 800 Watt element. I had to do this when i did this mod...

FREAKIN A!!!!! MES took a crap I think

I am with you on both of your 2C. I always preheat and add hot water. I hope we will not find any other issues with the 2 Gen units like this. But it looks like most of us have figured out all the issues on the 1 Gen MES. There are going to be just as many on the 2 Gens to come. Thanks...

    Repair help needed!

High temp steel plated nickel is what most of the High temp terminals are made of.

    Repair help needed!

This is so true Todd. We all know that this is just one of the issues with Masterbuilt. As you found out about the Gen 2 and the door screws. In the past most people just trash the hole thing. Some of us dint have the technical know how to replace a .05 cent part with a .20 cent part.
