It just all depends on your personal preference. I personally like to clean mine once in a while, but that is just my preference. A lot of folks never clean theirs. With the wood or propane smokers you can turn the heat up on high and burn most things off, but i have found with my electric MES...
Here is a picture of my smoker this morning before I cleaned it with LA Awesome ($3 a half gallon at dollar store).
And here it is after I sprayed it and rinsed it out twice.
If you look at the active ingredient in LA Awesome it is ethanol. It is alcohol made from corn. It evaporates very quickly and, is also biodegradable. I don't see any issues with using it inside or out on my smoker.
There are several ways to clean the window and I'm sure everyone will chime in with their method. The easiest way I have found is by using a product I found at the dollar store called LA Awesome. You can literally spray it on wait about one minuite and wipe it off with a paper towel or sponge...

LA Awesome cost a dollar a bottle and can be found at the Dollar General stores. Spray it on and let it set for a few minutes and the grease will generally wipe right off. Cheap biodegradable product that works better than anything I've ever tried.
