So tis the season for gardening.
If you are planning on having a garden this year you are undoubtedly in full swing either caring for tender little seedlings or putting tomatoes and peppers in the ground.
This year I am trying something new, peanuts.
Never grew them before but they just broke...
My Brother works in a restaurant and they needed to order a new cooler for the servers so he worked his magic and was lucky enough to get this for free...
Not sure if I will keep it standing or lay it on its side but this is gonna be the new smoker.
Ought to be fun
That's right Jersey smokers, if you have a Pathmark grocery store near you they started a sale today and have bone-in pork butts for $.99lb
I couldn't believe it, it's hard enough to find butts in my area as it is so this was a great deal!
Just be sure not to grab a picnic shoulder, in our local...
I love to cold smoke filet mignon and then cook it blackened (also known by some as Pittsburgh rare or black & blue but traditionally Pittsburgh style has no seasoning).
I thawed out some steaks and also put 2 packs of instant mashed taters in with them to see how they came out, changed my mind...
Came across an idea while Googling a few days back and from that some smoked ricotta cheese was born!
Took some ricotta I had, placed it in some cheesecloth and placed inside a strainer over a pan with a light weight on top to push out some moisture and set in the fridge for 12 hours, 12 hours...
That's right, sweet Jersey Fresh honey infused with the power of the hottest pepper in the world!
My Sister told me that she had stopped in a little store on High Street that sold candles, jams, and other assorted nic nacs from Amish country (Lancaster, PA).
She then told me they carried honey...
Wasn't quite sure where to place this so it went in General.
In the newest issue of Mother Earth News (love that magazine) they had a great article on how to build your own outdoor oven that you can use to grill, smoke, bake bread and many other uses.
Cost of basic materials runs approximately...
Yesterday was my first time doing lamb, not just on the smoker but first time eating lamb.
Never had it as a kid and lamb is on sale at an incredible price here so I picked up a leg, did some reading and Googling and went for it.
$1.99lb
I love when you save more than you spend!
Watched a...
Our local Pathmark has semi-boneless leg of lamb on sale for $1.99lb
From what I hear that is a pretty good deal so I was wondering how good and what others pay.
This will be my first time doing lamb so not even sure I will like it but if it's going on the smoker I'm sure it will be good.
Though there are two sections for peppers and tomatoes I figured since they are young I would only post in one section, after they go in the garden and start producing I figure then I will separate them, anyways on to the grow show.
First shot is somewhat hard to see because the light is on...
Sorry Dirt Guy, had to do it
So first day of Spring, 69 degrees out right now and going up to 74, sun is shining, garden work to be done. Anyone doing work in the garden or smoking up some goodies on such a nice day?

Received a wonderful package from Paul yesterday, so many sauces and rubs he forced me to pick up a few racks of spares to try them on, what a shame
First were some BBQ sauces and matching rubs.
Jack Stack Barbecue, K&M Bar-B-Q, Hayward's, Arthur Bryant's
Kansas City's Baron of Barbecue (7...
A few days back ThunderDome made something that really caught my eye, a beer bathed brisket.
http://smokingmeatforums.com/forums/...ad.php?t=90437
I thought it looked really good and he was kind enough to send me the recipe so I went out and picked up a 3lb brisket to give it a whirl.
The rub...
Gotta question and of course this is the place to ask it
So I really want to go to restaurant depot and since I don't own a business and such I was going to go the route of using a KCBS membership to go to one.
All the Googling I did about how it all works took me all over the place and it...
I regularly check in to the thisiswhyyourefat website to see the crazy things on there. The other day someone had posted a fattie and as I looked at it there was something familiar with it...not only had I smoked one just like it before but that was MY cutting board in the picture!
Someone had...
Here we go again...some of you may know some may not but the folks in my general area sure know about it.
Another storm coming, this one is shaping up to be worse than the last one...Gotta love those Nor'easters huh?
Sustained winds of 27mph with gusts up to 52.
This is our current warning...
Always enjoyed the little interesting things folks on the site have like favorite this and that well I was sitting here and wondering...what are you doing right now?

I sure do love this art of ours, even in most weather, snow, cold, heat, anything but wind and I'm a happy smoker, doing some burnt ends makes me an even happier smoker
I picked up a full packer and decided to turn the point into burnt ends and then cure the flat for some pastrami.
Separated...
