That's just evil, pure evil. Can't wait to try it! Pie tins with perforated bottoms are already available.

Breakfast Fatties on the lake with Qview!

Wow, those look good! That's the same smoker we have. We just unearthed it from the garage today, so now I have to learn to use that bad boy. I'm revved now that you've posted such great pictures of what our smoker is capable of!

Fattie Basics - a few questions

I've only made two fatties so far so I'm not a pro by any means. I also grilled them instead of smoking them. The first one I made, I used a meatloaf recipe using extra lean ground beef, and the bacon weave. It was stuffed with deli ham, blue cheese, and onions. It turned out great! The...

    Food photos needed!

The horseshoe sandwiches were featured on an episode of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Most of that stuff doesn't even look good, but the creativity is interesting.

I am ready for a puppy – what breed is best for me?

I would also add that our last two dogs are the only ones we did not get as puppies. After getting adult dogs, we have no interest in ever having puppies again. Ours came at the ages of one year old and about three years old, and were past the teething, housebreaking, and other unpleasantries...

I am ready for a puppy – what breed is best for me?

From your list of desired traits, I can tell you not to get a Siberian husky. We love huskies and husky mixes and have had one or more at a time for 34 years. We wouldn't want any other breed, but they are not for everyone. They're pretty hyper, as you can see in this photo...

    My Container Garden Update

Thanks for posting your real-life experiences with container gardening. I'm going to give that a try this year, so it's nice to see your comments about how well it works. I'll be using cat litter pails for the containers, since with five cats we have an endless supply of free containers.

    Turkey fattie turned out good!

I said I was going to try it sometime, and I finally did. Last night I used ground turkey to make a fattie. It turned out great! Sorry, no pics. As usual, no real recipe. To one pound of ground turkey I added one egg, some dill pickle relish, Heinz 57 sauce, fresh chives, and enough bread...

    More Cast Iron

Congrats on the new cast iron! Amazon is a good place to buy sometimes, too. I haven't done much experimenting with my Dutchies lately but spring is here now so I'm sure I'll get started soon. Gotta play with the smoker this year, too!

what kind of bread/rolls/buns do you use

Hungry John, the yield for that recipe will vary based on how big you make them, of course. I usually get about two dozen out of a batch using golf-ball-sized pieces of dough. I like to make smaller buns to help control calories both in the buns and in the sandwiches we make with them, but of...

BBQ Eng's Fattie Throwdown #1 - Calzone Fattie tons of Qview

Excellent! I wonder how a loaf of frozen bread dough would work for the crust.

Good fattie(s) to start off on

I just made my usual meatloaf recipe (which isn't so much a recipe as a bunch of stuff thrown together.) Then I rolled it up with some deli ham, blue cheese, and chopped onion inside and wrapped it in the bacon weave. It seems like you can pretty much add whatever you want as this method is...

what kind of bread/rolls/buns do you use

For sandwiches, we don't use anything but these buns anymore: Hamburger and Sandwich Buns (Bread Machine) 1 1/4 cups milk 1 egg, beaten 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened 1/4 cup sugar 3/4 teaspoon salt 3 3/4 cups bread flour*** 1 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast 1 tablespoon butter...

Have you ever left milk out overnight?

If you're worried about the milk, use it for cooking. We'd most likely drink it but we like to live dangerously.

    Drop Biscuits

Thanks, guys. I just built that rack last fall. It's made my stuff so much easier to use because I'm not having to move a big stack of stuff to get to something else. Consequently, I use everything more often now.

    First DO

Amazon.com is also a fairly good place to buy Lodge cast iron. They have reasonable prices and free shipping, which is not inconsequential for such heavy items.
