Using the calculator how could I measure this half circle firebox to check to make sure it's 1/3 the size and to see if I have enough air inlets in the box. Any help is appreciated? Looking at it I don't think the three squares on the door are enough. The smoker is 250 gallon tank.
I managed to find this 2 hours from my house and couldn't pass it up. I bought the whole rig for $300. Other than the tire blowing out on the way home I still made out like a bandit. It needs some TLC and paint but it definitely will be good to go soon.

I've got the tank and have mocked up a drawing to show how I think the build will go. My main concern is my Firebox. The tank is relatively thin metal. I know it will be hard to hold heat in the chamber. Should I beef up the reverse flow plate by using 1/8” metal or more. Or should...
Hey guys it's been awhile since I posted. I'm looking to start building a reverse flow tank smoker and have been looking for tanks. I've found a 250 gallon diesel tank for $75 on Craigslist (I offered the guy $50 he didn't seem to happy with that) close to home. The owner said he just...

Well another football season is over. It was a long and forgettable. Now it's back to my other passion/hobby. I plan to smoke a butt next weekend for my son's first birthday party. I haven't made BBQ since July! I'm overdue. So hello all and it's glad to be back.
Playing Dress up with the UDS! She got another coat of high heat gloss and some new shirts. We're ready for the fourth! There's also a 10# shoulder on there in case anybody was wondering...check out my no foil thread in the pork section or browse my album in photobucket.
I'm trying this for the first time on the UDS. I've never done a butt or picnic without foiling. We'll see what comes of it. I've got a 10# picnic on the UDS right now (no qview yet). I wanted more bark without it being mushy so I chose not to foil. I removed the skin and used Jeff's rub...
I added a second rack to my UDS and cooked chicken and ribs for Mother's Day (Sorry no Qview). I had the Chicken on the bottom rack and the 3 racks of BB's on top. I noticed for the first hour that the temp differences from top rack to bottom were 50-60 degrees off. I had about 10 chicken leg...
I had this el cheapo walmart charcoal grill forever, I walked past it in my building and thought maybe I could use that for the newly built UDS. It has a good handle on the bottom part and thought it could work as a charcoal basket for small or short cooks. What do you guys think? I almost...
After months of consideration and contemplation, I have BBQ bliss!
I got the barrel from a local farm supply store for 12 bucks and it was clean and unlined on the inside with small amounts of rust. I got a barrel, lid, and ring form a coworker (both the lid and barrel are lined, yikes! I'm...
This site is excellent for a # of reasons and great instructions from like minded people is just one of them. I'm learning how to BBQ and will be able to take what I've learned and pass it onto my kids. I'm thankful to be able to do what I do and learn from so many of you. Learning new things...
Thanks for all the suggestions in my other thread without you guys I couldn't have turned out my first two successful smokes!
I did these Sat. and reheated for Sunday's meal. Both Rubbed with Jeff's, couldn't tell a big difference w/ the rub on the butts. I used Soflaquer's sauce on one butt...
I've got this ? on one of my other posts...Sorry to be redundant I just wanted to let more folks see it..Kinda Desperate right now
I think my wireless thermo from Walmart is giving me funky readings. I have a taylor probe stuck through a potato on the rack right above my lowest rack which...
I'm going to be smoking two racks tomorrow and was wondering what method would be the best? I used the 2-2-1 method for BB last time and they were good except I would prefer for them to slide off the bone instead of fall (wah! my own quirk). I've read the 3-2-1 method is the best for spares...
The memorial day weekend smoke was so successful I've been commissioned to provide the BBQ for Father's day. Right now I've got two butts and my first fatty on. I used Jeff's rub this time and it looks great can anyone tell me if it's as good as advertised? I plan to do two racks of spare...
Prepped the Butt (8 lb) the night before used Famous Dave's Rib Rub for Butt and BB along with a mixture of Apple Juice and Capt. Morgan's as a spray. Put Butt on at 4:00 am, the ribs at 12:00 pm. Used three cycles of smoke, would add chunks after no smoke was visible. Temp inside smoker...
