    Is it "seasoned" enough?

Thanks again for the quick & helpful responses. I think I'll preburn to coals and give it a shot.

    Is it "seasoned" enough?

So if I preburn till this happens I can go ahead and smoke with it? Or if I see its still got moisture I need to wait to use whole stack?

    Is it "seasoned" enough?

Got a question for the experts. This oak was apparently split in Dec/Jan. I know its not seasoned as much as I would like, but is it seasoned enough to cook with? I don't know if it matters but I usually pre-burn. Does pre-burn allow you to use greener wood?? My first thought was that it is...

    BB's in the Rain

Tried to squeeze in an evening Baby Back Smoke before the storms came through. No time to mess with sticks so I used lump and pecan chunks. It started out a nice afternoon with a little TBS. Then a couple hours in, the storms came rolling through. Grabbed a tent and tried to make the best...

    Chickens and Ribs (QView)

Welder - I only had the smoker up to about 270 at the hottest so the skins were not crispy. I had ribs in there too so I didn't want to go too high. I pulled the chickens at 167. Flash - I agree on the Bourbon. I used it in the spray and the sauce for the ribs. (plus a little taste or two...

    Chickens and Ribs (QView)

Tried my first smoked chickens and ribs yesterday. Chickens were injected and rubbed night before and then beer canned and mopped during the smoke. Spare ribs were rubbed night before and then sprayed during smoke. This is only the third time I've used this smoker so I'm still getting used to...

    Smoking w/ a time crunch

Thanks for all the help. With the time crunch, I decided to go with salmon, shrimp kabobs, and ABT's. Here's the pit getting warmed up (with the pup showing some interest)... Here it is loaded up...I used Dutch's Maple Glaze for the salmon, crabmeat-cream cheese-garlic-onion in the abt's, and...

    New from Baton Rouge

Hey out there. I've been reading and learning from the site for a while and am just getting around to signing in. I'm pretty new to smoking but I'm already hooked. Last year I smoked a brisket at a friend's farm on an old horizontal offset without knowing anything. It turned out ok but what I...
