My buddy has a dog like that. Some kinda mastiff. Name's Hoss. I'm 6'1" and Hoss's nose'll hit me right about mid-belly without him even looking up. If he stands on his back legs he's taller than me. He can easily knock my 300 lb+ butt off my feet just by coming up and leaning against me.
personally I wouldn't use rock salt, too much chance of impurities that could ruin it. I'd use kosher or pickling/canning salt instead.
But as to your question, I assume you're meaning a salt crusted prime rib? Never done one but there's a couple posts on here about it if you do a search.
try doing a search for "maple extract" (make sure you include the quotes). I found a handful of threads that don't mention mapleiene specifically (it's just a name brand for imitation maple extract) but use the extract in 'em.
I'd probably hit it with a pressure washer, then a good scrubbing with simple green, then do it again a couple times. Then a good hot fire and reseason it after all it said and done.
as it is, the sauce is kind of a mixture of both, sweet with a bit of kick at the end. I find it a good starting point. For the people that like it sweet I usually modify Jeff's sauce by cutting down the cayenne and CBP a bit and adding some extra molasses and some honey. Haven't had any...
First off, sorry it's taken so long to get the final pics uploaded. It's been one of those months...
Anyway here we go.
Here's the PP butt ready to hit the smoker
Sorry, I didn't get any pics after the smoker, but barely remembered to snap one after it was all pulled and into the crock pot...

just to name a few. Look around a little.
some of the mes's (including mine) have problems starting up in low temps (say under 45 or so). But usually just taking the control box inside for a little bit will get it going ok.
I've used mine in temps down into the teens and once it's up to temp it seems to hold it just fine.
Might try hitting up some of these manufacturers.
I took a look at a couple for you and most are the silicone type, but you might find what you need in there:

Well, let's see. The heating element in mine is 800 Watts. So say for an 8 hour smoke that's 800 x 8 = 6400 Watt-Hours or 6.4 Kilowatt-hours. The average price in Oregon for residential electricity (Oct '09) is 8.95 cents per KWH, so 6.4 x 8.95 = 57.28 cents.
Now, that's assuming that the...
I had a similar experience two months or so ago. My 100's digit went out on my controller, and it was showing wild fluctuation in temperatures, that I verified with my remote thermo. I sent off an email to masterbuilt explaining what happened, expecting never to hear back. The next day I got an...
I was making up a batch of BBQ sauce. Actually making it a half batch because I didn't have enough ketchup to make a full one. But I forgot what I was doing and added the regular amount of molasses. I also added a couple shots of that Jim Beam Cherry stuff to the bbq sauce (and couple snorts...
