Hi All,
I'm still very much a novice at this whole smoking process, but love to tinker and know the theory behind a lot of what I do. And that goes for a lot more than just cooking. I'm an engineer...must just be in my nature.
Anyways I'm looking into making a new rub for tomorrow's...
I'm hoping to get around to my first smoke of the season this Saturday (late starter, I know). My wife would like me to do up some country style ribs, and take them to a party for the stanley cup playoffs that night. Ideally, I'd like to arrive there a while before chow time to meet up with a...
So my mother requested a smoked turkey for Christmas Eve dinner at her house. The latest I can smoke it is tomorrow (Friday). Any suggestions on the best way to wrap this thing up and re-heat on Monday? Looking for anything about if it's best to use aluminum foil or plastic wrap, wrap it hot...
Haven't seen the White Wave brand out here in Ohio, Vlap. I'll have to keep an eye out for it. The brand we usually try to get is extra firm Spring Creek, from a small place out in WV. Very good stuff, but getting harder and harder to find. I tried doing pressing the block last time to help...
For anyone interested in this thermometer, I saw it on sale in my local Lowe's yesterday for under $14! Not a bad deal, and they still had quite a few left. I picked one up for myself.
I know, I know....it's the smoking MEAT forums, but there's a lot of good cooks here so I can't resist asking...
Anyone have some good recipies for smoking any vegetarian/vegan protein sources like tofu, tempeh, seitan, or TVP? I have quite a few vegetarian friends and family and I'd love to...
Banjo is my latest instrument...along with guitar, bass, and a few different key instruments.
I picked up a bag of hickory chunks and a small bag of briquettes when I was at Gander Mtn. I heard that tossing one briquette in the wood tray with your chunks can help the smoke ring. I'll probably...
Well I finally took the plunge...
Bought a Camp Chef Smoke Vault. The SMV24S model. 24 inches wide and stainless. Couple of reasons pushed me that way. Seemed to have some solid support here on the forum. It was available locally, and I'd seen a few threads and read reviews on other sites...
So still poking around and reading all I can about the GOSM I found something interesting: there's more models than just regular and wide. (D'oh!). In case anyone else is checking around on GOSM prices and wondering why the big discrepancy, there's 4 out there that I saw that are commonly...
I think I might pick up the Lowe's/HD conversion kit and just see if it works. If it doesn't fit...I'll just bring it back.
The reason I'm looking for the NG option isn't really a fear of running out of LP. I already keep two LP tanks on hand for the homebrewing hobby. It's just convenience...
I did give a look through the manual. From the looks of it, the whole burner system comes as one assembly. Now if that means it's all one piece, or just pre-assembled I couldn't tell from the drawings.
I'm trying to find out a safe way to mod a GOSM to run off of natural gas. In this thread: http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/for...8716#post98716 Walking Dude mentioned that when he converts dryers from LP to NG and back that all it takes is to change out the orifice. Would one of you GOSM...
I've decided to go get a proper smoker for myself (been using my gas grill), and hopefully take advantage of some end of the season sales going on. I'm going to go with a gas smoker. It suits me best for now. Reading around the forum, I tend to think the wide body GOSM would be the best bet...
I would have kept going with the stones lyrics....but in actuality, I'm rather poor and classless. Wealth and taste aren't exactly my forte.
Thanks for the kind, and rapid fire, introductions. This board sure does see a lot of traffic.
BigArms, as for exploding mead problems there's 2 major...
Hey everyone!
My name's Chris, and I'm from outside Columbus, OH. I'm just starting out when it comes to smoking. I read up a bunch on the topic this summer, and did my first few smokes with a small cast iron box filled with wood chips down on the burners of my propane grill. My friends and...
