You watched me build it, now help me name it

The Transformer. It can transform a cold piece of meat into a hot tasty work of art.

First attempt at Ribs...with a side of venison

Better wrap them up, I ruined a couple of venison loins. They dried right up even though I sprayed them several times. Looks good though.

    Smoking Elk this weekend

I did a venison roast with mustard and Jeff's rub and ended up with a worthless piece of dried out meat. The bacon may help you. Good luck!

    Virgin Smoker from Texas

Hi Chris, welcome. I tried to make a smoker from a COLD water heater(hot water doesn't need to be heated) and found it difficult to weld as it was so thin. I ended up using 2 old propane tanks and they worked great. Good luck and most importanty, HAVE FUN!

    help

You have a serious problem somewhere in there. I would think about replacing the whole thing. Sounds like yours is shot now anyways. Propane can be very dangerous as it expands over 300 times from its liquid form. Being a fireman, I have been to several structure fires and seen them blow. Makes...

    Best surgeon in the world

Three surgeons were playing golf and one stated that he was the best surgeon in the world. "I had a patient that lost 4 fingers and I reattached them and he went on to play piano for the Queen of England". The second surgeon went on to say that he was the best surgeon because he had a patient...

When/Where did you get your FIRST taste of REAL BBQ?

My first experience with smoked meat at a BBQ was last August at my wedding reception. The BBQ was pulled pork, beef brisket, sweet corn, beans, ect. The smoker was on a trailer and fueled by charcoal. I got a good look at it and told by new bride"I can build that". I was blown away by the...

Why does my TBS end so soon?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I like the cake pan idea. I'm also going to buy an additional cast pan.

Why does my TBS end so soon?

I have a GOSM and I love it however I only get about 1 hour or less of smoke out of it. I have used large chunks, packed it with small chips including Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey pellets, which are awesome for sweet smelling smoke and a wonderful flavor, but I still only get about 1 hour of...

    Who's Patricia 2??

I got her crazy message too and just deleted it.

My new GOSM's very first smoke and the first time I used Jeff's rub.

It's 5:00 a.m. and the shoulder has been in the fridge with Jeff's rub all night. Half way through. 12 hrs later it's at 175 degrees. I ran out of time or I would have shot for 190. Cooked at 225. Let's eat!

    what's in my wood?

If you split the wood open I'll bet you'll find a white grub like bug about 1.5" long. I've seen them in pine several times but not in hardwood. If you listen close you should hear them. They sound like a swamp frog as they burrow through the wood.

    Apples in my fire.

I smoked some pork loin and beef steaks today and decided to chop up some wild apples that fell nearby. I put them right into my fire as well as near the top of my firebox and it produced a nice sweet smoke. We just ate dinner and you can taste the apple. It was a really nice twist and the wife...

    I Got To Smoke Today

I like your pictures. I tried to post some but was not able to do so. I kept getting a error message saying the pictures were to large to upload. What's the trick? Thanks!

    Just getting started in N.Y.

Hello,I just got married and had a catered BBQ. Wow was it good! I took a good look at the smoker used and came up with some of my own ideas. I went home, after the honeymoon, and built my own smoker out of 2 old propane tanks. My new wife has named it "The Rocket" because she swore I was going...

    What did I do wrong?

I just made my own smoker and smoked some steak and a brisket. The steak was awesome but the brisket was so-so. I smoked the brisket for 7 hours at 210-220 and then wrapped it tight in foil and into the oven at 230 for 2 more hours. I had to slice it, it wouldn't pull. It was juicy and full of...
