Oregon Scientific Wireless Thermometer @ Lowes for $9.99

I just tested my thermometer -- put it in a pot of boiling water for a few minutes and it held at 212 exactly. I'm impressed. It does take a few minutes (probably 90 seconds this time) to get up to temp though -- not an instant read.

Oregon Scientific Wireless Thermometer @ Lowes for $9.99

I've been using the Oregon Scientific AW131 wireless thermometer for about 4 months now. Performance has been pretty solid. Distance is pretty good (but not quite what they advertise on the box). I bought it at Lowes for $39.99. I just noticed it last night marked down to $9.99. It wasn't a...

In the middle of a smoke -- high meat temp 1.5hrs in

Thanks HawgHeaven. I moved the meat and flipped it just for fun, Opened the chimney flap all the way (boy, that really took the grill temp down!), and finally knocked that vent loose. Meat temp is 145* now and looks to be slowing down. Thanks all, looks like you guys saved my roast!

In the middle of a smoke -- high meat temp 1.5hrs in

In the middle of a smoke -- high meat temp 1.5hrs in

Okay, so I took out the thermometer and put it on a brick next to my roast. The temp was about 257*, so BigAL looks like you nailed it. I tried to close the vent a little on my SFB, but the black paint seems to have melted , making a great glue and causing the vent to stick. Any one ever...

In the middle of a smoke -- high meat temp 1.5hrs in

Yea, I'm going by the stock grill temp for the overall cooking temp. I was thinking about needing another thermometer for the grate, but i just didn't want to buy one. I guess this is what I get for going cheap!

In the middle of a smoke -- high meat temp 1.5hrs in

Hey Guys, I'm smoking a 5.85lb sirloin beef tip right now -- cooking at 225*. The roast was 50* when i put it it, I've been smoking it for 1.5hrs and its now 106*. That seems a bit high for such a short amount of time. Is this normal? Will it hang at 120* or so for a while? Hardware: CG...

what to do with hot coals afterwards

Hey All, I've been lurking around the forms for a month or so just soaking in the info. I just finished seasoning my new CG w/ SFB (and this is my first attempt at using charcoal) and thought I'd grill some chicken for lunch tomorrow -- hate to waste a hot grill! Anyway, now my chicken is done...
