Brinkmann Southfork smoker with upgrades. This is not a flimsy Walmart smoker, it weighs about 600 lbs.
I have added bushings and grease zerks to the big wheels to make it roll easier. I also added casters and a hook to help load it because it. I made a charcoal basket and heat diffuser too...
I just told my wife, who is susceptible to food poisoning much more than me and she thought there was no issue. She thought of it like food in a crockpot.
i put a brisket and 2 Boston butts on the smoker this morning. I wasn’t awake yet and inadvertently had the 2 butts touching. I just rearranged after 8 hours and the edges are obviously below 140. Are these 2 butts not safe now?
I keep SMF up for most of the day at work and I also stream Pandora. A few times a day I get weird sound coming out and found it is ads on SMF running video. I hit the back and forward buttons and it seems to stop it for a while. Is there a long term fix to this aside from a membership?
Over on tvwbb where the Heatermeter page hosted, there's a chap (like the lingo?) who say's that he'll assemble units for those in the UK. You might want to head over there and hit him up. His screen name is Jon_Skeet and the thread he says this in is "Pre-Built Unit"
Hope this helps,
The Kroger on Bardstown Rd @ Gene Snyder in Louisville, KY had BB ribs and Boston Butts for $1.99/lb. I know the Kroger 5 miles south of there did not have the same pricing. I guess look at the add for the store closest to you to see if the sale is close to you.
Bardstown Rd @ Gene Snyder. The one I was at Sunday was the one in Mt Washington and they were not this cheap. Aside from browsing Kroger sale ads or calling individual stores, there's not an easy way to find out pricing. I'm going to make a new thread talking about this sale.
Let us know what the prices are too (unless he's getting a deal of course). I was going to pick up a couple of boston butts at Kroger the other day and they were $25 a piece. I'll wait until they go on sale...
Welcome to SMF from Louisville. If you hear of any good deals on meat or supplies let us know!
Also don't forget the Q-view or you know what you'll get.
Micco Performance makes what the call "The Fire Plier". It is meant to lift/rearrange logs in a campfire but cleaned, coated with oil, and baked I think they would be safe for handling food. Might need to reseason them once in a while. I can't find a website for them but they are on Facebook.
Each adult will 1/4 - 1/3 lb of meat. Assuming you would like leftovers, lets say you want 40 1/3 lb servings = 13 1/3 lb of finished meat. If you cook 24 lb of Boston Butt, it'll reduce down to about 13 lb of finished pulled pork. If you don't want leftovers, simply multiply the number of...
Cook them like normal, allowing time for the largest one to get done. The only real difference is the amount of fuel you'll burn. You'll have ~4X the thermal mass to heat so it will burn more fuel to maintain your normal smoking temp.
I'd get a twisted cup brush from Lowe's or the like to save time. If you do it with elbow grease, probably a stiff steel brush would be most aggressive. A brass brush just won't have the stiffness to clean the rust up. After you have thoroughly wire brushed it, spray some brake parts cleaner...
