I realized I should have put that info in and editted the above post. I should also add that it tasted fantastic so I am not dissapointed just wondering...
So here is a question I ask mostly out of curiousity but also wondering if I am doing something wrong.
I bought some fresh sausage Friday and smoked it for about 5 hours starting this morning. I have done many brisket and chicken/turkey smokes but this was my first sausage.
I started it at...
I would definately upgrade the wiring inside the chassis but I do wonder the toll 400 more watts will take on the other electronics? It appears to truly be just a relay that switches power to the thing then hopefully that is all that might be effected and as long as its rated for 12-15 amps its...
If I call, ask to buy part X, install said part myself and then burn my house down while yes I can sue (God knows you can sue for ANYTHING) you really think I would get money out of them?
Whats to stop me from calling company XYZ and ordering an element I think might work, installing it in my...
I think I may go to sams and just get the model/serial off one of their floor models just in case.
What she said exactly was that she "could not" sell me one without first giving me the model number of my current unit and it had to be one with a replaceable element.
And how does one go about getting one of these elements?? I just called and got told that unless I had a unit sold in the last few months that came with a replaceable element then I couldnt get this? Mine is 2 years old but is EXACTLY the same as your photos.
She wanted to know what model it...
The Cord would be EASILY replaceable and who cares about the plate. Just drill out the rivets and sent it in, there won't be a big hole in your unit except for the rivet holes.
Ha, now here is a something to laugh at. If you look at the manual that comes with the MES it shows a "Parts" list with order info (call Masterbuilt)
So the body is listed as well as the heating element (seperately).
I call and ask for a price on the body kit. Then I ask for the Element...
Umm... Water? J/K
I Sometimes add wine, beer applejuice. I have never felt the water imparts a whole lot of flavor, it just keeps the box humid so its kind of like a continual mister.
I usually fill it half way or therabouts with water and put in a bottle of beer or whatever I am adding...
I am not sure what all you have been smoking but I can tell you that I add about 1/2 cup of chips soaked or unsoaked when there was absolutely no more smoke coming out. I smoke briskets, chickens, sausage, pork and steak and I pretty much do it all the same way. 1/2 cup of chips spread out...
I don't know if it is the wiring or the connector that is cheap. Probably both. I have truly only used mine about 8 times. A few of those very short smokes.
I am going to use it again this weekend for 40lbs worth of brisket and 4 chickens.
I got contacted back by Masterbuild C.S. and was...
Customer support... HA
So before I started messing with the smoker last Sat. I emailed Masterbuilt support asking for any help they might be willing to offer because I had possibly used the unit 12 times and it wast just under 2 yrs old and was tripping the GFI.
I got a pleasant reply to call...
N/P. Just go to the counter at the auto parts store and tell them you need spark plug boot grease. If you call it a diaelectric compound or anything like that you will probably get a wierd look.
I just looked at it and it bears a logo that says "ABG" and the label says "Diaelectric Spark Plug...
I imagine that one of the issues you face leaving it outside has to do with it going from cold to hot frequently. As the air inside the unit reaches dew-point it drops its moisture inside the control panel. Do that often enough your going to damage an LCD for sure.
I used the diaelectric compound that you can buy at auto parts stores for putting on spark plug boots. Keeps them from corroding to the plug end and is for high temp applications.
Interesting update.
I found after completely taking the unit apart that both ends of the burner element wire are the made exactly the same. This of course required drilling out the rivets in the small square box on the bottom that holds the electronics package in it to get at one of the ends...
Oh I have taken it all apart and cleaned the connectors but its still doing it :(
Guess I should have mentioned that hehe.
I am amending this with the fact that the last time I used it (last summer) I did so twice in one week and hosed it out between uses. I thought perhaps some moisture had...
Yeah, when I asked the masterbuilt C.S. rep about the seal she told me that they don't even see those, they go from the factory straight to Sams.
I also asked her what that protrusion is underneath she didnt know, again because they dont see them. I did discover last night during my first mod...
