You will get about 30 hours smoking out of a 20 lb. tank. That's a ball park figure, depends on the weather, ambient temperature, wind, etc.
What size is the $75 GOSM? Price is right. BIGGER is better. Get the largest you can afford. If you buy the small one later you will wish you had the big...
Don't worry about it. The "smoke ring" is nothing more than a color change produced by a chemical reaction aided by humidity. It adds NO flavor.
Some think it is nice to look at. You have it or you don't.
What you smoke will taste no different, ring or no ring.

For $14.95 (includes shipping) you can order a CD that has detailed plans and a wealth of information to build smokers from propane tanks, pipe, etc. Plus you get a BUNCH of recipes.
I'm building one from a propane tank as we speak using this CD.
Drop by your local Q joint. Ask them how they smoke ribs. $100 says they never heard of "3-2-1". And do you suppose they turn their smoke off and on in their pit? Of course not, it is smoking constantly if lit.
IMHO there is no such thing as "too much smoke" as long as it is TBS.
There IS the...
Dan, you had to be there. It wasn't the beans that were spilled, it was the ribs. About 24 slabs of baby backs. Basted with Sweet Baby Ray's. On fresh mowed grass. Forever to be known as "rib salad".
OK. First, I need to get something straight.
I took the Event Coordinator position because I wanted the event to be bigger and better than last year. I put time and money into it, burned gas. I fully expected support from this site. I got NONE. There was no mention in the monthly newsletter...
Doesn't say so, but this refers mainly to the 20 & 30 lb. tanks generally used for gas grills, smokers, and RV's. Meth cooks don't lug around 150 gal. tanks. They stay mobile, cooking in motel rooms or their cars.
Maroons.
As the label says "A Kansas City Original". Here is their site -

It wants to install a Microsoft add on when you go to it, be aware.
I have not tried their sauce, bet it is good though. The rub is my favorite.
They have some recipes on their site also.
I smoked a 7 lb. rib eye roast (pretty much prime rib) on my drum today. Gently massaged it with EVOO, then coated with Double Q rub. Double Q makes killer bark.
Fired off the drum with a load of lump and half hickory, half cherry for smoke. The drum smoothed along at 250°-275° without me...
Uhhhhh............. Uff Da! Hope y'all come out OK.
I'm waiting for estimates on replacing the roof on the house and the roof on the Morton Building, the screens on two sides of the house, repainting two sides of the house, replacing gutters, and replacing the chimney cap after the "Hail Event"...
Why not just paint your smoker SILVER? It will reflect a good portion of the heat loss back into the smoker, reduce fuel use, help stabilize temps.
If you don't like silver you can shoot black over the silver, it will still work.
And this REALLY DOES WORK. It's an infrared thing.
Note the red...
OK. Here is the straight skinny -
1- Don't use chips, USE CHUNKS, 2-3 at a time, they last a good bit, put them in your little pan that sits above the burner
2- Don't soak ANY wood you want to smoke with, it just has to dry out before it will light and produce smoke. Why waste the time...
I believe BT Bones is defunct. And Shorty Small's is not a Q place, and also not what it was when it first opened. As far as BBQ goes Branson suffers.
I HIGHLY recommend Lambert's! "Home of throwed rolls" and good "home style" cooking.
And McFarland's is also not bad.
$.02
No good que joints in Branson, sorry. The only good one they had was on the strip and it is gone. Sorta hard to find any really good place to eat there any more. I do go to Landry's for seafood. It's "Ok".
If you are in Sprangfiel look up Crosstown Barbeque. It's the Real Deal!
