I have never used a smoker before and this came with the house so my questions are what would be your recommended way of getting the fire and smoker box up to 225 degrees minimum and how would you maintain it. 18 x 18 Firebox and 3 foot by 4 foot smoker box

N1984. Nice smoker, you will have to experiment with your quantities of wood to reach desired temps. I am assuming you have a vent with a damper to also help control temps ?

No damper anywhere to be found. Firebox door is able to be opened in 1/8" increments as is the ash cleanup door on the back but no to the damper.

N1984, IMHO you are going to regulate temps by how much wood you burn and also by cracking the door.

Do some trial runs with it empty just to see how it behaves. Then try smoking some chicken parts, they're inexpensive and you can learn the smoker's quirks.
