Ok I got on rec tecs website to order the mini and it says the smoker has been "discontinued". Am I missing something here bc I thought they just upgraded them with the new door coating and ceramic rod.

They have discontinued it - the rumor is they will come out with an upgraded version in Feb 2018. But after checking with support they have said they will have service parts as long as we own our 300's. Will see. I love my RT 300

Well guess that answers my question on which one to get. Really liked the small forum factor bc we go camping a lot. That sucks

this was in today Augusta news paper:

With its two well-established models in the market, Carnes said he plans to introduce four new products next year: the “Matador,” a propane-fired wok-style cooker; the “Rectagon,” an octagon-shaped pellet grill slightly larger than the Mini; the “Bullseye,” a low-cost model designed specifically for brick-and-mortar retailers; and the “Argentina,” which Carnes would not discuss.

“It’s top secret,” he said.

As with REC TEC’s existing products, the new grills will be shipped with an owner’s manual that includes a welcome letter and the personal cellphone numbers of both company co-founders, the operations manager and marketing manager Jody Flanagan.

Look at the Yoder yf480

The 480 for camping? It weighs close to 300lbs and cost more than 2x what the RT 300 does.

If you're looking for pellet grill for camping, maybe the smaller GMG?

The RT mini has been discontinued. Friend of mine knows the owner.

They still have the RT300 for sale - I called them and they said they would keep service parts as long as the company was in business. Plus the controller, auger and motor are the same as the 680. I have the RT300 and would not hesitate to purchase one.
It does work great for home, tailgating and camping. I love mine and even though it has a few short coming not sure what they can update that would make me want to change until it dies completely. They even have a few RT300 that were painted with the wrong paint and if you come by they see them for $300. Just a thought.

For 300 I could care less what they are painted like as long as the paint will hold up. I will call them tom morning and see what they say

Called today, they won's say specifically what's going on, but I DID get out of them that a so-called replacement should be out late Feb/early March AND, "it'll be worth the wait, trust me". Other than that he acted like he didn't know what is coming as a replacement (but I know he did!) So, I'll wait and see what they come out with. I'm hoping they have taken everyone's suggestions on improvements, and re-designed the mini! And MAYBE it'll have the same warranty as the 680! And we wait......

Update: Also got an email just a bit ago stating that Rec Tec will be offering a "portable grill at the same price point sometime in February".

Yea I forgot to post on here i called the Monday before Thanksgiving and he told me the same thing except it would be out within a couple of months. Guess I will hold out and see what it is.
