There is nothing like a homegrown tomato and I always am waiting for my first tomatoes of each variety to come in. My grape and hybrid beef masters have been in for a few weeks already, BUT today was my first Mortgage Lifter (heirloom) of the season. Boy, was it a big one too.
Mortgage Lifters get a pinkish red color. It needs about one more day to finish on the kitchen counter. I pull my tomatoes when they get this far so the birds don't put holes into them with their beaks. I've lost too many over the years that way. Planning to slice this one and cover it with Italian dressing...yum! Little piece of heaven.
