you say pre burn out is ok, what about burn out plus wire brush?
so far that is all i have done to mine.
i was planning on starting to accumulate the rest of the pieces in the next couple weeks, and hope to have it done in time for the holidays, so that week pretty much fits my schedule
i just picked mines up today!
all i could find was one with a plastic lid, so im gonna have to improvise on the lid, or else try to hunt down just a drum lid.

i had a big problem with them about a month ago.
I set traps in all the rooms in the house and would catch bowl fulls a day, and yet they still kept coming back. SO i went on a cleaning expedition, and i finally found where they were coming from, and took care of that. havent seen another one...

All I have done with mine, is drilled 5 1/4 inch holes in the charcoal pan.
When using the grill i fill the charcoal pan with about half a load of lit charcoal at the beginning of the cook, then I put the extra grill grate on top of the charcoal pan, and put about half a load of charcoal/wood...

I've been using a brinkman water smoker for the past 10 years and have enjoyed smoking all sorts of meats. For what I use it for, that smoker has been all I need. I do however drool over much fancier equip. but have a hard time justifying getting anything...
