Dude I am now jonesing for some sirloin tip roast. Little of the au jus, some creamy horsey sauce and roasted asparagus on the side... That would be some fine dining!
Just my two cents... I would go down to Home Depot/Lowes and buy a regular 22.5inch weber charcoal grill ($99) and order a smokenator ($60) to fit. You would have the best of both worlds on a limited budget, a very good charcoal grill and a Weber "smoker". Otherwise, I would hold onto my cash...
Not really a mod, but an accessory that will expand the capacity vertically so you don't run into the chicken being too big issue.
Smoke-EZ.com. (no financial interest in this product, I just love.)
I use one on my Weber and have for the most part stopped using my horizontal offset and use...
A question on the mods...
I know the "patented" flame disk sucks so everyone is using a cast iron skillet that has to be raised up above the burner. Is there any reason not to just take a pair of tin snips to the flame disk, cut out the center of it, put the skillet on top of the remaining...
I saw this on another thread about making a windbreak for the Masterbuilt XL who was having problems with the wind blowing out his fire. There is a picture about half way down the page.

You could probably do...
Mike,
Just me, but I think TBJOEBBQ hit on it. At the end of the day there really isn't a right choice as it will be your life style and how much you are going to use it. The offsets use a lot more fuel and require tending a lot more than the BGE. While the BGE isn't a set it and forget it...
Amazing what folks are willing to give up on Craigslist. I have a friend up in CO who found a Yoder Witchita at an estate sale for less than $500 that appeared to little if ever used.
No offense taken. I probably didn't say it well.
I admit I long for one of the big heavies, but I also long for a Ferrari and SI swim suite model, which aren't in my future either.
If we just take better care of the good less expensive equipment, it will last just as long and allow for other...
Oh, I have no problem with them. In fact that was my point. I don't believe the heavy metal is worth it for the 99.9% of us, when you can buy a less expensive one that will do everything you need.
I have an OK Joe that I paid $25 buck for off of craigslist, rehabbed, and love it. One of the...
Just my two cents, and I don't give it away easily cuz I am cheap... I like the Old Country smoker at Academy and when I looked last month it seemed they had gotten a better grip on the quality control on the welds, so for the money (plus a good cover) you could have a very good smoker that...
I thought about building one. However, I am trying to move a way from propane, so I decided to be lazy and go with a Weber kettle grill and add the Smoke EZ insert.
There are many times during the summer where my smoker sitting out in the sun shows 200 before I have even started the fire...
Have you tried throttling back at the propane tank valve in addition to having the smoker temp set at it's lowest setting? I know some would say not to do those kind...
We've been much more willing to jump on "manager specials" that can go in the freezer and to stock up on sale items. In fact, I go to the mark down section first.
I think the answer is yes, but.. I have noticed differences based on weather conditions, what type of fuel I happen to be using and the quality/quantity of what I am cooking.
