I was just given a new grill! Apparently it's huge.

I was speaking with a friend of mine yesterday, talking about welding tips (I'm thinking about building a custom smoker for myself). His father over heard the conversation as says, "Why don't you just come get that grill we have out by the cabin?" These people have have a 250 acre farm with a...

    bradford pear ????

I don't have a specific answer here...never tried bradford pear... HOWEVER.... Somepeople (especially myself) are HIGHLY alergic to bradford pear trees in the spring when they bloom. Probably has something to do with the flower/pollen I'm sure. But for that reason alone, I wouldn't risk it...

    Help me out with hickory

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm trying to figure out how to use less wood... Please tell me if the following is a good process, or poor process: I build a fire in the fire box with lump charcoal...usually Royal Oak. I allow it to burn and mellow out for about 45 minutes or an hour. Then I...

    Help me out with hickory

I've only been smoking seriously for about a year and half now, when I got my Longhorn smoker. Before that, I had tried my hand at it here and there, but nothing much. After I got my smoker, I started researching woods, and discovered that apple is good. I was in luck, as my brother-in-law...

I'm following you perfectly. I can do that. What is the advantage/purpose? Obviously, the mod effects the manner in which the smoke vents...effecting how much smoke can build up inside the smoker....is that it? So that you can have the smoke "hang around" longer before it exits? Similar to...

What type of mods? I never really thought about it. Mine is not identical to that picture that I posted. My side-fire-box does not have the pull-out ash drawer. So I have a little hand-held garden shovel that I remove the ash with. Other than that, it's a great little grill. I can either...

Yep, The Country Music Marathon, April 25th. I've been lifting weights for years, but I just started running last year, purely as a way to burn calories. I hated it at first, but I had to trim some of my own fat pad! Now I'm into it. I've surprised myself so much, that it's entirely...

Oh I ran alright...ran for the border, if you know what I mean! I live in Nashville, TN (11 years now)....but I'm from Texarkana, TX. I grew up on fine smoked briskets. So much so, that I probably just took it for granted that you could get good brisket anywhere. Not so. Can't find authentic...

    Greetings from a new member

You guys have a great website here. There's enough material to keep me busy reading for years! I've been an novice smoker for about 10 years...with varying degrees of success. I love to do it...but I learn by my mistakes. I recently got a Oklahoma Joe's Longhorn... ...and I'd love to really...
