If your stack is too small you may see alot of smoke leaking out of the door and a premature buildup of creosote inside the pit. You may also have difficulties getting your fire to burn adequately due to the lack of proper draft.
CarQuest automotive paint store sells "BBQ Black" paint that's rated to 1300 degrees. They have it in aerosol cans or gallon size. The gallon paint can be brushed or sprayed on. I just paid $56 for the gallon size but it goes a long long way. I'm getting ready to paint 4 pits I just completed...
Great looking smoker so far. The firebox door on the same side as the cooking chamber is interesting. Are you going to use a drain pipe for the drip plate? Keep up the good work!
Welcome Billy, in my neck of the woods mesquite grows like weeds so I have some experience with using it to smoke meats. Mesquite smoke is probably the harshest smoke there is besides rubber tires. An example would be smoking a brisket. Since briskets only absorb smoke for 3 1/2 to 4 hours, if...
bigsal, if I remember correctly the firebox should be about 1/3 the size of your cooking chamber. Nice score on that pipe. Where I come from it would cost about $300. That piece itself would make a mighty fine backyard pit. Good luck.
Hi Dutch, have you ever cooked authentic South Texas "Pan de Campo" also known as Camp Bread?
There is a festival in San Diego, Texas called Pan de Campo. It is amazing how they can cook with Dutch ovens.
They made it look esay so I gave it a try, forget it, my bread crumbled like corn bread...
Zeeker, nice job on both of the pits. Will they be backyard or towable? Great idea that you have your buddy makin one too. Yall can use his and keep yours clean!
Is that Christie Canyon hangin on the wall in the background?
Thanks bmudd, that's exactly what I've done. I made the cuts I needed before everyone got twisted over this issue.
Also gonna make a 20" X 48" pipe charcoal grill that will fit beside the smoker. That way it's more of an all purpose rig. We like to enjoy steaks, fajitas, shrimp, etc. in...
So my sin is not actually building a reverse flow, but asking for help. Many people here share information about reverse flows.
Nothing personal or disrespectful but you seem to be hypocritical for saying you have respect for Ben Lang and his patent and his employees so you wouldn't share any...
Thanks Capt Dan, unfortunately I have emailed Lang several times and called once in the last month with no response. I wanted to purchase a new one but got frustrated so i decided to build my own.
I'm guessing if they don't want to take my money for a smoker then they probably won't want to...
Hopefully Pinkmeat will be able to help me. I plan on cutting both pipes this weekend so I need to know the measurement for the firebox opening. I also plan to cut the doors, etc.
I'll post more pics when I'm done.
The diameter of the pipe is 24".
Howdy all. I'm building 2 identical reverse flow smokers on trailers. Just built the trailers last weekend so I'm ready to get started on the pit. I have a 24" pipe 60" inches long. I want to make it like the Lang 60.
I have a very good understanding of how it is set up. But I need to know the...
