For years I been saying no to bbq classes with the attitude if I was gonna pay hundreds of dollars for a que class it would be from Paul Kirk. Sure enough my team captain found a class so I had to put my money where my mouth is. class is limited to 20 people all four kcbs categories will be...

    How smart are pigs?

Iowa is by far the leading pork producing state, over 19 million hogs and 3 million people, more than a 6:1 ratio, a local news channel figured out there is a voting district in the city of ames which has no human inhabitants, only hogs, its at the Iowa State University Research Labratory...

Which trailered pit to get for $2-3k

I think Langs are good cookers but Ben will charge you the price of a cooker just for shipping. I don't have a trailer pit but I used Craig Bell from Bellfab.com, last I knew his trailer pits start at $1600 (24x60) and go up from there, with him you can option out larger tube diameters...

Need advice on smoking with straight wood. no charcoal.

forgot to mention I agree Oak is a great heat wood if your stuggling to find a source of flavor woods, by burning the oak you only have to have a little flavor wood to add occasionally. By preburning you should get rid of your smoke billowing for sure, it don't matter that its just a fire pit...

Need advice on smoking with straight wood. no charcoal.

As far as I am aware its just a lingo thing, A stick and a split is the same thing to me, Some guys will differentiate a Log vs a split, a log being a unsplit branch/tree, a split being a larger piece of wood split into 8, 10 or more pieces. I would say an easy rule of thumb would be don't use...

Need advice on smoking with straight wood. no charcoal.

if you going 3 or 4 hours on one piece of wood you must be using huge logs, My pit drafts very well so I burn a little faster than some but I am looking at a stick every 35-45 minutes, I usually have splits roughly 4 x 3 x 14, with a proper fire I get less than a minutes worth of white smoke...

    Horizon, Lang, cant decide

responded to your other post first, with a $2000 budget you could easily have a 24 x 60 trailer pit with options or even bigger plain jane from Bellfab. http://www.bellfab.com/

Anyone heard of Smokey Joes Smokers??

they have been around a while, long enough to get a pretty bad reputation for taking peoples money and delivering a pit or money back months later, there was a huge thread at the Brothren about them being shoddy. Horizons and Bellfab (owasso=tulsa area) are both out of Oklahoma if geography was...

    Newbie Smoker Question

depending on where you are in the country will make a big difference as you may end up with $600 in shipping on some pits. I used Bellfab in Tulsa OK, custom smokers built one at a time, dual racks standard, fully welded, nice ash dump, he will do most options for free and offers thicker pipe...

    restaraunt commercial smokers?

the smallest gas burner I have seen was over $7000 around here, I have seen a larger one, not sure which that was all tricked out with rack kits and other options and was $41k. High dollar high output units, the "little" one I saw for 7k still holds over 250 lbs of meat if I remember right.

Fort Wayne officials refuse to slap Harry Baals on public building

This is just to funny, reminds me of my high school auto shop teacher, Russell K Junke, it was a scandinavian thing, pronounced Yunka in the old county but around here he is just Rusty Junk LOL http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/02/09/fort_wayne_harry/

    restaraunt commercial smokers?

Southern Prides in alot of places around here, they seem to be the best compramise between getting real wood flavor but running off gas mainly. Horizon Smokers has huge commercial units available, I have seen one of the 15 footers, guy claimed he had 880 lbs on board and there was room left over.

Question: Does having a large smoker mean you need ALOT of charcoal to heat it

if you have the ability to work with 1/2 go for it, usually the cost of steel ain't the problem its the weight, 1/4 steel is what most people consider a heavy gauge pit so anything thicker than that is a plus, these are usually the pits that even if neglected will last 30 years, with a little...
