New 120 Gal Grill / Smoker on Small Trailer

The key pretty welds are: Clean metal - No rust, dirt, coatings, oils etc. on the area to be welded. Good welder - Nice AC/DC welder. Practice - Practice, practice, practice... And of course, the right settings on your welder in combination with the right rods. Just my 2 cents..

New 120 Gal Grill / Smoker on Small Trailer

It all looks real good to me!! I agree with unclebeef on the air intakes on the firebox. I probably would have made them sliding and below the fire grate but it looks like it will be ok... Great job on the doors! Those are the hardest part in my opinion and yours look like a snug fit. Watch that...

for us not so professional welders-be careful!

I have been exposed to phosgene a few time while working on A\C systems... If you heat freon with a torch it creates phosgene gas. If you don't fully evacuate all of the freon out of an A\C system before you start soldering the copper lines you are gonna get gassed! Learned that the hard way It...

    Brazing or welding

ARC would be my choice.. but MIG will work fine also. In your case I would go with MIG since you probably will have better luck with that if you are just starting to weld. Make sure that you get a good MIG, at the very least 140 amps or more would be even better! TIG is not even an option for...

UDS lid not sealing correctly anymore?

Good question! I cut the lip/flange off my drum because my Weber lid did not fit at all. It fits perfectly now but the added support of the lip/flange around the drum is gone, haven't had a problem with it yet though... Maybe you could bend the lip in just a hair with some channel locks/pliers?

    Newb with a ?

Tractor Supply has it here in FL but it was like $26.00 for a 1ft X 2ft piece and Lowes was about the same, not to mention it was pretty flimsy stuff... Fergit that!

    Rust and the Smoker

Like HeliboydoesBBq said, These are unbelievable!! Alumina zirconia abrasive flap discs, you will be done in minutes... Then paint with high temp grill paint, 3 or 4 coats then smear lard on your firebox or spray it with PAM and put a little on after every cook after it cools down a bit...

Got my 250 tank and My first build begins

I am with Pinkmeat and SixPack and the BFH!!! Or you could do it the old fashion way and heat it up in a real hot fire until it is orange and beat it with a BFH like a Blacksmith..

    Newb with a ?

edsaws, your fatties look killer!!! Great lookin drum also, looks like you got it down now! I got my expanded metal in a 4ft X 8ft sheet for $60.00 at a local weld shop. It's the really thick stuff though so I couldn't really bend it very easy so I just made a big square basket and welded it...

NEW to Smoking: Is the WSM really that easy

WSM's are great!!! Very easy to use and almost no interaction! If you are going to buy a smoker that is the way to go. I have seen people win comps with them over big old Langs and the likes. Can't get a whole hog in them but great for the back yard BBQ. They have the bigger one now also, almost...

Weber replacement handle - What do you think?

Thanks GnuBee!! I knew somebody would see things in a twisted way like myself! I have trouble making pretty things so I thought lets just go full on ugly cause I am real good at makin ugly stuff. Plus they are called "Ugly Drum Smokers" Right? I have seen some really nice lookin UDS's but I...

Weber replacement handle - What do you think?

Thanks stickyFingers, to answer your two questions, first being the top drums, yes they are connected. They are welded together at the open ends, so it is one big drum. Second question about the fuel consumption, It doesn't do too bad at all! I start with one bag of Royal Oak lump to get a nice...

Weber replacement handle - What do you think?

Hey stickyFingers & Billbo, I used to have a whole thread on this forum with all of the pics a while back and then they had problems with the web server and all of my posts went bye bye, my number went from around 400 something down to 70 or 80 and my rep went down so I have not been posting...
