Some of you may remember my MacGuyver post a while back from when I was smoking a 9lb shoulder and found out that morning that the element in my Brinkmann electric smoker had burned out. I improvised by setting the smoker body on top of my Weber Smokey Joe. 12 hours later it worked out really...
Ask and ye shall receive:
This one doesn't really tell you much besides the Brinkmann is missing it's bottom. You can barely see the legs of the SJ peeking out from underneath.
Here with the access door open you can see the body of the SJ with the water pan resting directly on top.
So today was to be the big day-the day I tackled my first pork shoulder after having purchased a Brinkmann Electric Gourmet smoker at a yardsale for $20. Upon bringing it home washed everything, coated the inside with vegetable oil, etc...but never thought to plug in the element... Let's just...
Hehe...my wife thought I was nuts when I first starting talking about wanting to start smoking. Now she's in on the fun helping make the sauce, etc...and telling me, "better get to bed early tonight!"
*I apologize if this ends up getting posted twice-I tried to post about 15 minutes ago and it never showed up on the forum.
Tomorrow I'm having my folks over for an early Mother's Day dinner. My wife picked up a 9lb shoulder yesterday (it was all they had left and at $1.10 a pound it was...

Last night I took my first crack at homemade BBQ sauce for my upcoming smoke of a 9lb pork shoulder this weekend which will be my first attempt at smoking anything. I'm using a $20 yardsale acquired Brinkmann electric with hickory chips and apple cider in the water pan. Anyway, here's my sauce...
I'm just getting into all of this having just purchased my first smoker last weekend (yard sale Brinkmann Gourmet electric) and joining SMF only recently. My first attempt will be to tackle a Boston Butt and I'd like to come up with a sauce. I went through a couple of bottles of BBQ sauce we...
So I just picked up my first smoker-a $20 yardsale special Brinkmann electric...you can stop laughing now. I know that they're not really considered pro quality, but nonetheless, I'm going to make the best of it. I've been boning up on modifications (temperature controls and whatnot), but I...
My dad (the yard sale king) calls me up on Saturday and says, "you want a smoker for $20?" I figured I couldn't go wrong so he grabbed it and I picked it up yesterday when we went to my folks' for Easter dinner yesterday. It's in good shape, doesn't even really look like it was used very much...
Hey everyone-I was referred by jerseyhunter because I was asking questions about smoking venison on another site we both post on. I never knew such a forum existed but I'm glad I found it. I'm a real do-it-yourself hands on type person and I've always wanted to learn how to do this myself...
