    Doc, I directly connected a power cord to the element of my MES40 and plug it into my Auber WS_1510ELPM PID controller. Never looked back.

    I really like the idea of putting a dust cage at the very bottom of a webber kettle right on top of the incoming vents. Just can't imagine too much heat being developed. At worst case add a mailbox as I suggested earlier, to the end of the lower duct pipe.

    Instead of the smoke generator, attach the end of that long tube to a mailbox and use pellets in a AMNPS. Would be perfect for cold smoking.

    Walk around your neighborhood with a magnet in your hand. You'd be surprised how many neighbors are still using the old aluminum mailboxes. Once found make your neighbor an offer to replace it with a new painted galvanized one.

    But are you still considering using the Masterbuilt cold smoker but with a longer exhaust vent tube? Per tallbm's replies, so much easier and most importantly cooler using a mailbox setup with a AMNPS tray.

    Yes, get another independent temp gauge to confirm the temp. Sounds like too much smoke being created by the smoke generator. Might look into using a mailbox with a AMNPS instead of using the generator and a tube. People have a tendency to overfill the tube creating a lot of white smoke.

    I'm still stumped as to why the smoker temp reached 100 degrees if this was a cold smoke attempt. Even if the sunshine was hitting the smoker,,,,,,in January? Since the smoke generator was/is electric powered, seems like there's a need to find a way to help prevent the heat from the generator...

    Gibraltar use to produce an all aluminum mailbox like mine pictured here, but no longer. Another option is their all aluminum mailbox painted on the outside and not painted on the inside, which I believe is still available. Black is model ADM11B01.

    Electric Smoker Build Help/Ideas needed

    What smoker/model are you using? I connected a power cord directly to the smoker's heating element. I then plugged the other end of the power cord into the PID. Way too simple.
