Hello, I used Tremclad High Heat Enamel. It does not need primer, I sprayed it on but have since use a brush with what was left in the can for touch-ups and changes I had made since the build. I included the details on the paint as I purchased it from Home Depot.
Premium fast drying formula offers superior durability and colour retention for indoor and outdoor high-heat applicationsBeautifies and protects metal, resisting heat up to 350°C (650°F) for gloss finishes and 650°C (1200°F) for flat black and aluminum finishesWill not crack or peelFor use on barbecues, wood burning stoves, radiators, engines and other metal itemsAlkyd-based brush-grade formatI found it does work very well and went on extremely nice.

The price was $6.79 for 237ml.

Oh sorry NO primer required as primer usually will not take the heat.
